A friend recently sent me a tiktok video of some chrome paint being applied. I was impressed and looked it up. Maybe someone here has posted already so I apologize if this is the case.

Asla corp has some neat looking paints that may work for a substitute to chrome.

I will try it when the time comes. If it looks like chrome for less than $200 I am in.

If it is as good as it looks this product will open the doors to many chrome needs that may be dented. or need other repairs.

I looked it up. Found a prop dude that had a fairly in depth look at it. Basically it has to be applied in a very fine air brush technique or else it looks like crap. However, he did not do multiple applications and was on gloss black base. IDK if I am sold on it.

I've seen it tried and it just never really looks like chrome plating. It is also very sensitive to UV. Even with plenty of clearcoat you will want to store the vehicle inside, and expect it to still lose reflectivity over time.

It is best suited for small parts, because when you can visually compare a large painted-chrome piece to real chrome it's not even close. However, it is much cheaper than chrome and it looks a LOT better than silver paint!

ALSA is garbage.. fake brush/spray on chrome... but it comes out like crap... dont believe everything you see on the net. They put this video out and then don't refund "you sprayed it wrong"...

Cosmi chrome is the real deal...

You can't paint this type of chrome paint at home or everyone would be doing it... They will usually put 3-5 coats of clear on this to protect after wards...

you will have to find someone to spray it for you, lot of shops do it. I have my 58 plymouth fiberglass bumper wings done for 80$ a piece... its probably more now. They will shoot bumpers for 100-120$ i think

He applied it wrong. I read the instructions and while tedious are important to a shiny finish. He did 2 steps and over applied the chrome. It is a multi step process and you need to have an extremely smooth finish to start with. Black base, then a clear, then the chrome (dusted) then a light hand polish then another clear then an automotive grade clear. If its not shiny when applying the chrome you need to stop and figure out what is wrong, in most cases its over applied.

I am getting this info directly from the instructions and actual users that are not affiliated with the paint company, they are just consumers that learned how to apply it.

We all want it to be simple but with paint its always about the prep work then applying the product correctly. He did both wrong.

To make things easier you probably need a high solids sandable filler primer first to fill in the small imperfections then sand that then apply the base coat to make sure that its coming out super smooth and shiny. The metal surfaces the ammo can guy was painting were pitted and not smooth. Can't exactly call the product junk until we see someone apply it correctly.

Here is a video from someone that figured it out and did it right https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8P_HuhLJYc

while not as cool as real chrome (nothing is) doing it correctly gives decent results

you cant do this with anything other than cosmichrome... and i think hyrdochrome yellows..
