greetings ! what is the stock/ oem wheel measurements that the 1959 dodge cr 4 door hard top came with ?

I know they were 14" diameter x 6" wide for the cr hardtops but what is the back space of the wheel ? Thanks !

All OE FL I have ever measured, where +0.5" offset. That means the centerline of the wheel is a half inch inside from the hub mounting surface.

ok , so you are saying by looking from the backside of wheel mounted to the car.... the wheel is 1/2" inside the brake drum edge ?

These are the 14x6 wheels I am going to use . I know they are NOT the original style. but that is what I have to use . these wheels appear they have alot of backspace on the backside .. and they might set to far in the wheel house. just saying. that''s why I sure would like to know what the backspace is on the wheels oem.
Thanks !

IMO these cars can't have enough backspacing. Nothing looks worse than a FL with its wheels sticking out of the wheel housings. If your 14"x6" wheels have the OE offset (only that is relevant for suspension geometry) of 0.5 inches, the backspacing should be about 3.3/4", IIRC.

Sid, a 3.75" backspace on a 6" wide wheel would be a +1/4" offset. And this sounds right in terms of the factory placement.

No, this is why I do not like backspacing measurements. I ignorantly ordered custom made rims, thinking backspacing is a relevant measurement and gives you the offset, 25 years ago. A costly mistake.
Backspacing includes the thickness of the metal and the lip, which can differ from rim to rim design.

Again, backspcing is meaningless for suspension geometry, it only tells you if the wheels physically fit without hitting the control arms, inner wheel hsgs, etc. But this is not how you should select wheels.

PS More backspacing (more positive offset) does not only suit these cars better, IMO, it also reduces bump steer, since this moves the wheel centerline closer inwards, closer to the ball joint inclination line.

Well I just went and looked at the wheels and it appears that they're only 5.5 in wide 14 in I thought they were 6-in wide but they do have the right backspace of three and 3/4. So what do you think I think the wheel is wide enough for a h7814 I plan on putting on or a 800x
14? That's what I was assuming how wide they were for a custom rail four-door hardtop cuz that's what I looked up in the manual the wagons always took the 6-in or bigger

I ran much wider tires on my 5.5" stock rims without issues. Of course a slightly wider wheel would improve roadabilty or reduce wobble but at the expense of more weight.
