Hey Guys,

I'm trying to determine if there should be a bracket that bolts onto the inner fender for the battery hold down. I have a picture of the spot where there are 4 holes as well as the bracketry that I have. Any info would help.

Thanks

The short one should bolt to the inner fender. The longer one hooks into the radiator side edge of the metal part of the battery tray.

Yes, that much I figured out. I have 4 sets of holes on the inner fender which led me to believe that there may have been a bracket there at one time. I suppose that another set of holes were drilled when a different size battery was installed, much like the situation that I have now. I'll get the hold down figured out for my current battery after I fix the rusted out sheet metal underneath.

Nice graphics by the way.

Thanks

As far as I know, there were only two sizes of batteries in 1955-56 era Mopars. Group 24 in the junior cars (Plymouth and Dodge) with 6 cylinders and small V8s and Group 27 in the senior cars (Desoto and Chryslers) with the larger V8s.

Rough sizing would be something like this:

L x W x H (inches):

Group 24 = 10 1/4 x 6 13/16 x 8 7/8

Group 27 = 12 1/16 x 6 13/16 x 8 7/8

So almost 2" difference in length.

There is a bracket that bolts to the inner fender, my '56 Plaza only has the front set of holes.
