New User Posts: 3 | I purchased a show car. A 56 Plymouth Fury. It has a plastic fuel cell in the trunk. Now I purchased a donar car. A 56 Plymouth Savoy. It is a texas car with little rust. It has a good gas tank and filler neck that I am putting on the Fury. The tank came off easy. The filler neck is between the frame and trunk body and then it goes upward on a 90 degree angle through the right rear fender. There is hardley any wiggle room. The only way I can see to remove it is to either cut the frame, cut the trunk floor, remove the body, or the most likley cut the neck close to the upward curve and then use a rubber coupling to reinstall it. Anyone have a better idea? Thanks Bill

Expert Posts: 1207 Location: Ponder, TX | I I just looked at my '56 Fury donor car and can see your problem. You might try loosening the body mounts to see if there is enough flex in the body to give you clearance. I removed the fill pipe from my project when the body was separated from the frame. At the time no one was making new tanks, so I installed a '64 Plymouth tank and moved the fill pipe behind the license plate rather than mess with that side fill setup. I've got the old pipe vertical parts to try your cutting idea if you are interested in experimenting. You are welcome to have it for the price of shipping. Edited by GaryS 2022-07-05 4:58 PM

Something like this: There is a tab behind the top of the filler tube that you can access with the gas cap off. There is a screw holding the filler tube to the body there. Probably another one down lower. Edited by 56D500boy 2022-07-05 7:03 PM (eBay55PlymouthFuelTank.jpg) Attachments ---------------- eBay55PlymouthFuelTank.jpg (45KB - 87 downloads)

The Phillips screw into the top attachment tab and a pivoting, one-bolt clamp at the bottom (which now I have the sudden urge to remove and clean ) 56 Plymouth will likely be very similar. Dave! Be careful when you remove that clamp bolt. It might snap off and then you will be in for a world of hurt!@!! Too late. Snapped. 1 hour later and lots of drilling and easy outs (never work) and tapping and I am back in 1/4 x 20 business again. Can't leave well enough alone.

New User Posts: 3 | To day I did cut a 4” section out of the frame of the donor car. I was surprised how light weight it was. The filler tube fell out easy. Do I want to do that to the show car??? You have my interest on the center filler pipe that you put on. Was it connected to your factory tank? Was it difficult? Are you happy with it? I thank you both for the attention and all the trouble of showing pictures ect. The pictures of your car are just like my Fury and Savoy. Bill

Bill Bill, installing the B-body Mopar tank was easy for me since almost the entire trunk floor was rusted out so I welded in a flat floor without spare tire well. The '64 tank tucked up nicely and the stock '64 fill tube I bought with the tank lines up exactly behind the license plate, so fit was not a problem. Because of the tank shape, a stock exhaust pipe does not fit on the right side and will need the muffler shop to build one to fit. I'm satisfied with the setup, but the engine still has not been started so it remains to be seen if everything functions properly. If I can find them, I'll attach a few pictures of my setup. New User Posts: 3 | Thanks for the great pictures. So I would have to sacrifice my spare tire well if I went the rout you did?
