Subject: 56 dodge coronet gauge wiring

I’m using a Painless wiring kit in my 56 Coronet and using the original gauges. The electrical gauges all have one bullet connector style post and the other is a threaded post. Can anyone please tell me the purpose of each post?

I suggest that you first review the OE Factory Service Manual (FSM) diagrams in this thread:

I believe that the switched power for each gauge goes to the stud and nut (with a ring terminal at the end of the wire) whereas the signal wire (actually typically a variable resistance ground) has a bullet connector that goes to the bullet connector post on the back of the gauge. So that will be true for the temp and gas gauges. The oil pressure gauge is purely mechanical (other than the shared gauge light). The Ammeter is a whole different thing since it is used as a connection point for many circuits/things.
