You don't see these things around everyday!

With more than four million built, the Ford Model A offered boundless opportunities for individual interpretation. Here’s an example. This 1930 coupe has been transformed into a semi-tracked snow vehicle with a Snowbird conversion kit, by the Arps Corporation of New Holstein, Wisconsin, that produced these tracked conversion kits for the Model A and early V-8 Fords. This Snowbird was reportedly purchased from a New Jersey estate, according to its current owner, the seller, who says it has been extensively refurbished and he’s unaware of any rust. This 1930 Ford Model A Snowbird coupe presents very strongly in the provided photographs.

POWERTRAIN
The Model A was powered by Ford’s 201-cu.in. L-head inline four-cylinder engine. The carbureted engine with a compression ratio of 4.22:1 was rated by the manufacturer at 40 horsepower when new. The seller is uncertain whether this Model A’s engine is original to the vehicle, but he reports it “idles smoothly and produces no smoke on startup.” The three-speed manual transmission is said to “shift normally,” with an “occasional” oil drip noted. The seller notes that the differential is fitted with 5:1 reduction gearing and internal brakes. The steel track links appear to be in very good condition, per the photos. The two idler axles have vertical coil springs. The engine bay presents as being strongly clean.

EXTERIOR
The paint is believed to date to the 1970s and its quality is rated by the seller as “6.5 on a scale of 10,” with some unspecified body blemishes. The door seals are said to be effective. The roof insert is reported to be in good condition. The seller is unaware of any rust on the Snowbird, or of any past rust repairs. The chromed items appear to be in very good condition, per the images. The running boards and fenders have been removed. The seller reports “possible minor scratches” to the glass, and states that all lighting is functional.

INTERIOR
The interior, which may be a LeBaron Bonney replacement kit, is rated by the seller as “9.5 out of 10,” with no upholstery tears or other visible damage. The rubber floormat looks to be in good shape, per the images, and the headliner is reported to be in good condition, with no sags. All interior trim is said to be present. The instrumentation is believed to be functional. The rumble seat has vinyl upholstery and appears to be in very good condition.

CHASSIS
The seller states that shock absorbers are installed at the rear only and appear to be in good condition. Only rear brakes, which are said to work properly, are used; the front brakes were removed to accommodate the front skis. The rear paddle tires are said to be new, and the seller notes that the idler axles have new bearings.

DOCUMENTATION
The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean New Hampshire title in his name. Additional documentation includes receipts for repairs and an original Snowbird conversion brochure. This 1930 Ford Model A Snowbird coupe is an interesting conversion of the classic for extreme winter use.
