Expert Posts: 1351 Location: Valley Forge, Pa. | I've replaced the core and had the whole thing repaired at least 4 times over the past 18 years and it's starting to leak again. The top tank has expanded again so I'm done with repairs and would like to replace it and store the original. I BELIEVE I always treated it correctly? Replace the antifreeze fairly regularly. Since I've owned it, it has never overheated or been frozen. I always use distilled water and correct antifreeze. I'm guess others have replaced their radiators before and would like to know if there is a bolt in replacement for a 1960 Plymouth 318/powerflight. A parts #, manufacturer, ect. Any info would be helpful. It does not have a shroud.

Expert Posts: 1812 Location: Slidell La. | Hey there, I've got a 59 Plymouth, I have in my car a 69 Chrysler Newport radiator. All you have to do is set the radiator in position, keep it spaced on the bottom at a minimum so the radiator cap doesn't rub under the hood. It has the flanges on each side just like the original, you just need to drill new holes. I used threaded rod for the bolts because it can't rub cause you know what that will cause, so I used the rod and nuts to make it stand off of the core support. I have pictures of it in the Albums section. My car is no show car by any means. It's a 20 footer and I'm happy with it. I drive the wheels off of it. Hope it helped.

Veteran Posts: 164 | I am guessing the problem is with your repair shop-not your radiator. Also you need to know that 318 and B block radiators are not interchangeable. The bottom outlet and pet**** are reversed on them . All my cars are B blocks but i have 2 or 3 318 radiators that i cant use. would need to be recored. It is my understanding that you cant buy new tanks so you may want to consider carefully before you discard what you have. If it would help I can get the model numbers off mine but I am not trying to peddle them because the freight would be prohibitive . Pat

Extreme Veteran Posts: 377 | I used the stock radiator in my '60 Fury that was born with the 361 when I stuck a 383 in it without any over heating issues. I agree the problem isn't with the radiator it's who ever did the re-core work.

Veteran Posts: 112 | So we just had our radiator shop call us and say that our radiator is completely shot. The upper tank has multiple stress cracks and the core has a hole. He said we have to find a new radiator and he has no sources for a new one. What is everyone doing for a radiator in their car if they have had to replace the factory installed one? If it matters, the stamped radiator number on the top tank is 1686202. Edited by resq302 2021-12-08 9:08 PM

I would recommend finding a good used one from a parts car. Cross reference the part number in the 55-8 parts book to see if it's the same for '58 or maybe even Plymouth or Desoto ? That will allow you to broaden your search. Also, get ahold of John Fowlie at Big M Auto in Williams, CA. He has lots of late 50s Mopars in his yard. Ron
