Location: west chazy ny | I just picked up a 59 Savoy and i'm looking to set timing and noticed no balancer on it? Not sure if its missing or never came with one?
I see what i believe is a timing mark on the pulley but not 100% sure any info would be great. Thanks

Location: So. Cal | Many 318 poly motors & other Dodge poly motors didn't come with balancers from the factory. So the pulley was used for the timing adjustment. What you have shown there does look like the timing mark for it. The pointer is a separate bracket that should be mounted to the lower 2 bolts on the water pump.

On my '58 318, the timing mark had completely disappeared.
I had to find it back by measuring top dead center.
AFAIK, the poly 318 did not come with an harmonic balancer.

Location: So. Cal | Some poly "A" engines had them. All of the early Fury's had balancers on them and they started using them on certain cars in late '57-up, but stopped using them again at some point. My '58 318 had a balancer on it, but my '64 truck 318 motor doesn't. Though my motor came installed in a '56 Fury so he could have swapped parts over, in theory. |
