Been away too long, and I needed to get my fin fix. I picked up this '57 Savoy in Pennsylvania last week and am having it trucked here to KC soon. It's a 301 Powerflite car with fiberglas fenders and a redone interior. It drives great although the steering gear (manual) really needs to be tightened up - loads of slop. I'm thinking about converting it to power steering anyway, so we'll see which happens first. Anyway, good to be back! Hope you've all been well.

Cheers,
-Trogs

Welcome back! Looks pretty nice. Interesting exhaust tips and side view mirror. What are your plans for it?

Daily driver. I’m going to add power steering, and probably a torqueflite before too long. Beyond that I’ll just be cleaning up the few remaining things that need to be fixed. And yes, I’ll be in the market for a correct side mirror.
Cheers!

Be aware that there are different variety of Torqueflites, e.g. cast iron and aluminum case. The "easy" one for you would be the cast iron one (keeps the eBrake on the trans) but you could go to aluminum case (but it is more work).

I upgraded my 56 Dodge to cast iron Torqueflite but it wasn't ea$y. Your 57 Plymouth might be (should be) easier because the Torqueflite was an option (so parts might be found easier).

Here are some hints:

Thanks 56! I was planning on trying to find a cast iron one. I had a '57 Belvedere in high school in which we swapped a 318 and a TF from a '64 Dodge for its original flathead / 3 on the tree. It ended up being the best car I've ever owned. Thinking of something similar here although I already have the V8. The only thing that would tempt me into an engine swap would be a 392 Hemi, but I'm not sure I want to spend that kind of money at the moment. Either way, first order of business is power steering. My shoulders are not what they were when I was 17.

I installed the power steering conversion from Floydyouturn and it is great. It is not difficult to install. You have a very unique color. Happy to have you back!

How does the new box connect to the old column? What mods do you have to make?

In the kit, there is a column extension adapter and floor bracket for the column, and after the steering shaft is modified to length, there is a u joint that is used to connect the gearbox to the steering shaft. All hardware and instructions are included.
