Not to be picky but it is Hiltop Auto Parts (not HiLLtop Auto Sales)

I have bought rare NOS parts from them several times over the past 5 years. Never any issues. The fellow at the other end is "John".

Use their contact form to get things rolling. They will answer via email.

Their prices are outrageous. I wouldn't support them and instead look elsewhere for the same part at 1/3 of the price.

Outrageous might be true but when you have looked at all the possibilities, e.g. eBay, Mopar Mall, Len Dawson, Grease Monkey Ranch, Collectors Auto, Arizona Parts (Martin Kolner) and, in my case, my local NOS parts guy, and still come up dry, except for Hiltop, you got a do what you gotta do.

Hiltop is not my first choice but several times, they have been the only choice.

If there are suppliers of NOS parts that I've missed Ron, please let us know. (Thanks)

Private individuals have hoards of NOS parts that they've been collecting for decades. You find out about them by word-of-mouth. I won't 'bend over' and give my hard-earned $$$ to ripoff artists like Hiltop just because I tried a half dozen commercial places without success. Also, folks should consider rebuilding mechanical parts rather than spending $$$ on NOS.

I agree, there are a lot of high priced parts sellers, like a shark, their eyes roll back when there is a part in high need by someone that they feel they can gouge them for the part they're selling. Lets name some...

Great Lakes mopars in Carlisle had many incredible things back in the early 2000. Took him more than 15 years to sell it almost all. NOS parts are almost gone and sellers like Mitchell and others know it.

I have bought some parts from hiltop.Stiff prices yes,but they had what I needed. I have also bought from AMS obsolete and had a good experience.
A example would be I can have used dented scratched 61 Plymouth stone guards sent out to be refinished at what cost$$$ or I can get some NOS ones for $200 ea.!

I didn't have a problem with RareParts. Inner tie rods for a 55 Desoto are unobtanium. But they are recasting them. I believe they sold me a pair for around 250. That was about three years ago. Also, they rebuilt my center link for around 200. Not terrible either. I noticed that their price for center links has gone up, however.

AMS Obsolete bought out Frank Mitchell's inventory after Frank croaked. Mitchell had a terrible reputation of selling misrepresented parts at super high prices. AMS has tried to clean up Mitchell's bad rep by being helpful over the phone and shipping promptly. They also worked with me on a rare part they were selling, by offering free shipping. I would never buy from Frank unless I saw the part in person (he had a tent at Carlisle). But I will continue to buy from AMS.

Half a century ago I read for a college economics course "Pricing Power and the Public Interest". In a nutshell, the premise is the public is best served when a vendor charges the highest price as that is the prime driver of competition. If Hiltop asks $100 on eBay then there will be others tempted to part with their treasures and list them for $50 or $75. If Hiltop has the only one in existence who can challenge his price? For those who feel his profit is excessive, I recall a line I used in my 40 years of crisscrossing the country hitting swap meets. When a buyer squealed at a $100 price and said I probably only gave $25 for the part I would respond "Actually the guy I got it from paid me to haul it off so if you give me a $100 I am making a LOT more than $100 but that is really between me and the guy that paid me". After all, if you find a $20 is it only worth $10 because you found it?

There are boatloads of assumptions in that statement. For one, we're not talking about parts that are plentiful or can easily be produced. There is a scarcity of supply that will only get smaller unless someone puts out a ton of money to get the parts successfully reproduced.

The public needs to let the vendor know that they won't be ripped off. And they do this by not supporting them and instead looking elsewhere.

I've had good luck with AMS NOS parts. They have an awful lot of parts that are unmarked but they were able to find correct exhaust hangers for my wagon based on pictures I sent them. If something doesn't come up on their parts search, let them know what you need and they'll put you on a list in case they find it in the future.

I purchased a nice p/s steering pump cap for the stock p/s pump. The cap is too small for the p/s pump installed at the engine of my Letter. To get the bigger cap the only source I found was the hiltopap epain shop. I did seek for every parts number of the caps I found, except the originally mounted p/s-pump and compared the pictures with the existing cap (with rust through holes). Of course, the price is outrageous.

Not sure why that would happen.

I will never slam someone who is trying to make a living in the parts business because they are high priced. They have way more expenses than a hobbyist who has surplus part(s), and they need a paycheck to live on. They set the price, I can decide yes or no, no one is holding a gun to my head. (If they are dishonest, that is a whole different matter)

I recently made a purchase from John at Hilltop, and found him to be an extraordinarily trustworthy, stand up, seller. I searched many places for an NOS turn signal switch/cancel assembly that goes under the steering wheel. I had tried fixing the old one, including wasting money on a new switch, which the assembly promptly busted, so I knew I needed the whole thing new for my 57 Desoto. I found 2 of them, they were both expensive, but Hill Tops was 1/2 the price of the other so I ordered it on line. He emailed me the he had it but with a superceded part # that should be exactly the same. When it showed up, it was not the same, so I emailed him pictures illustrating this. He replied that he would get back to me. A few days later he emailed back that he didn't have or couldn't find the part with the exact part # that I required in his inventory, but he was going to buy one from another seller and send it to me, and pay me to ship the other one back to him.

I have found that a vendors response when thing go awry is a true measure of their character as a businessman, and John proved to me that he is one of the most solid.

Edit: the part was the same, except that it did not have the 2 arms and the 2 springs on it for the self cancel. It looked like the parts from the old one were supposed to be transferred over by grinding off the posts, move the parts, then peening the post tops to hold the arms in place. Too much chance to mess it up, so I asked for the complete, already assembled part.
