Subject: 1955 Belvedere fuel pump

My '55 came with an electronic fuel pump, which buzzes constantly. Short of replacing the mechanical pump, is there a way to tell if it's just the diaphragm in that pump that's bad, or an internal engine component that is causing the mechanical pump to not work?

Location: Alaska		Many people mount an electric fuel pump wrong. It should be mounted with rubber mounts to isolate it from the frame or body so the noise and vibration is not translated through the car. Make sure it has a good ground wire.

There is no need for an electric fuel pump. Mechanical pump should be rebuilt. Send it to Then and Now, or buy one of their kits and rebuild it yourself.

Location: Beaumont TX		Here is a link to a fuel pump I bought on EBay for my 1955 Savoy. It's been real good so far and it's a Carter. Not the same as the Airtex 4820 or 4280 but matched the one I had on my car that was replaced in the 1960's. These are new pumps and he has 7 left.
