Extreme Veteran Posts: 351 | Well...I have finished my Steering Wheel. I work slow so don't laugh at the hours. A good 40 hours of removing cleaning up, sanding, filling cracks, more sanding, etc. and then another 10 hours prepping, sanding and painting, Pic 1, peeling off what ever it was?? Pic 2, Some of the cracks to be filled. Pic 3, Filled cracks, I used a number of products. Bob Smith 20 minute epoxy is a low viscosity epoxy, mix up a small amount and fill the cracks with a pop cycle stick which I sharpened to a point. Then dip the stick in the epoxy and drip it in the cracks and watch it flow through. I used foil tape to contain the epoxy as I was filling. Then go away and come back another day and do it all over again. Pic 4, progress filling and sanding and more sanding down to 400 grit. and then Prime and paint. Pic 5, ready for another coat of white Poly Urethane paint, Pic 6, Another coat of Black and sand again. Pic 7, is what I ended up with. It is not perfect but looks not too bad. I hot and cold tested my filling of cracks by warming the wheel up in front of the fireplace until I could hardly touch it and then put it in the freezer over night to see if cold had any ill effects. I think it should outlast me! Extreme Veteran Posts: 351 | Does anyone know if there maybe a clear plastic or silicone cover made for this size of steering wheel? It would be nice to have a little more to hang on to rather than that skinny wheel. I don't want to hide all the work I put into fixing the wheel with some dumb wrap. Del S | ||

You can get them custom made, already dyed for you. Fill with a cotton batting underneath to give it some thickness. I did the same thing with my Cuda wheel using a more standard cover.
