got 2 round areo wheels
the green one i think is NOS $1700 shipped lower 48

the purple one is decent/nice used $1500 shipped lower 48

you want both?? $3000 shipped lower 48

green one is very nice although there are a few "chips" in the solid parts no visible cracks or stinking of the plastic

the purple one has few cracks in base maybe few faint hairlines in clear no stinking of the plastic looks like it was spray painted purple over black original color

both presentable to use as is

IIRC "Aero wheels" where the square ones, this is the "de luxe" wheel for manual steering only.

Yes, but these were only available or "correct" for manual steering cars in 1960

Maybe, except steering wheel exchange According to factory literature the "Aero wheel" only came (optional with PS and the "De Luxe" (optional) with manual steering and after almost 40 years searching and looking for 60 Plymouth, I've never seen a PS car with a "De Luxe" wheel.

Lads --
I can't remember how it came about, but back in 1960 I tangled with a guy that had a '60 Belvie with a stick Golden Commando and no PS, but he had the "square" Aero wheel. He may have special ordered it that way or perhaps he put it on himself, but when I first met him that wheel was on his car. My car at that time did not have PS and had just the "cheapo" round wheel, so I really thought it was cool.

Either way clear sparkle wheels, aero square or round enhance any forward look cars interior by far, these are hard to find and at a fair price ,if i didnt have them allready on my rides i would be all over them

Either of the sparkle wheels are cool.

May want to go back and review this previous post. Many of the same individuals provided input. Though like now, not certain the round -vs- square question was fully resolved.

Maybe this can assist with figuring out the steering wheels.

Here's the page right from the 1960 Plymouth Salesman's pocketguide.

It shows order code 304 "appearance group" included in that package is the "Deluxe" steering wheel

There is a separate package, order code "307" that has power steering option.

Note it states that the "appearance group" is Available on ALL MODELS - No mention of with or without power steering required

Thank you,, I have that same book,,Here is the 60 wagon I just parted out this last summer. Power Steering ,Round Deluxe steering wheel with padded dash, rear re mote power tailgate window , stone shields,

and crazy ,, No 3 rd seat but still the grab handles on the back , cars were build all different ways, No Grill bar on this package, had the chrome plugs in the bumper.

another wagon I had had third seat with rack on top and no grab handles,,

I had two sedans, one a Fury, one 4 door ht Fury , two 2 door ht one Fury and still have that one,,, three wagons, none of these had a reason as to made one way or another. All kinds of combinations. I know many did have package deals too.

Yes, of course "all models" and it does not mention the aero wheel, which was available on all models too.

So my guess is, the "Deluxe" (in this case) stands for the optional sparkle wheel, either round or square and when you ordered PS you got the square one. Nobody knows for sure and of course everything could be personalized at the dealer or eventually later. It takes only a few minutes to switch the wheels.

I believe this answeres the question. Deluxe for manual steering only:

There is no technical reason you couldn't use that wheel with power steering. Could be that someone wanted the fancy wheel but turned off by the square version. Or it could be that a dealer swapped the wheel from another car on the lot. Lots of things happened like that.

Here's a bulletin for 1960 Chrysler showing that cars with the Mirror-Matic come with it installed but not wired in case the dealer wanted to swap it to another car.

Yes, very nice wheels that would enhance the interior of any 60/61 Plymouth, Dodge or Desoto.

You can use those wheels with 3 onda tree cars also. You don't have to have PS either.

Would love to upgrade my 60 Savoy but this is a little out of my range at the moment and I have my concerns.

A couple of questions-

Can I remove the purple without causing damage?
Do you have the horn buttons?
Cant see the cracks in the base of the purple one...any effect on function?
I’m in Oklahoma and temps hit well over 100 degrees. What are the chances this wheel will just fall apart?

Thanks

TJ

yes the purple can be removed with acetone or a lacquer thinner from home depot. there thinners are not as aggressive as pure virgin thinners used in the automotive trade and also there are organic removers that work well also

Do you have the horn buttons?

no sorry
Cant see the cracks in the base of the purple one...any effect on function?

there are cracks in the solid colors on the purple base no it will not

I’m in Oklahoma and temps hit well over 100 degrees. What are the chances this wheel will just fall apart?

i cant guarantee any of the falling apart HOWEVER neither wheel is brittle or have the smells of the plastic deteriorating i would say these wheels will hold out for a while still

Thanks
