Hey everyone,

I was changing my spark plugs and there was oil on the plugs, not where the spark itself happens, but around the rest of it and around where I removed them. Oil on all 8. Is this normal? Never had any oil around the plugs before, then again this is my first time messing around with a vehicle this old.

That brings up several questions . How much do you drive and is it using oil? Oil on the plugs means it is burning oil which can come from worn rings or valve guides most likely.

Completely normal for a hemi motor. There is oil that collects around the tubes and when you remove the plugs, that oil is released onto the plug as you pull it out. Hot Heads sells tube seals that will prevent this from happening, but you have to machine your heads to press fit them into it.

That's what I thought as well, the tubes are held in place by the spark plugs. I noticed the same on a Hemi engine I was working on.....

They make these to solve that problem but they've never worked for me.
