Del: Sorry to do this but, on behalf of Center Plane brake owners, the brakes that you show and the procedure that you describe are *not* for Center Plane brakes.

Center Plane brakes are simpler to adjust than what you describe, as per this factory video (then a slide show, now a Youtube):

That's a Chrysler brake that I had never seen while I worked on the bench. Different than the 11" Lockheed style. Dodge/Plymouth used this style from way back until they switched to Bendix in about 63. But whatever they were a sh** brake to adjust. Sorry I called them a Center Plane but the same applies these are a pain to adjust. I knew I would get some comments! It's been a long time since I worked on the bench.

I did some reading after being corrected and cannot find any reference to anything except Lockheed (mfg'd by Chrysler) for the brakes used on my car.

If anyone is having trouble adjusting this style of brake I am sure the procedure I have laid out is correct.

Comments Please! Just for the heck of it.

There's a difference between a routine MINOR adjustment and MAJOR adjustment after the shoes are replaced. The factory recommended MAJOR adjustment requires a dedicated tool, I believe the info in the OP deals with an alternative method of performing the MAJOR adjustment that doesn't require the tool.

For details on a handy simple tool and how to adjust older Chrysler product brakes see this link

Works on my 29, 38 and 55 Plymouths
