Plazaman - 2020-10-07 5:01 AM Looking for good rubber seals for the Sliding Glass assembly for a 2-Door Suburban.

Good luck, to the best of my knowledge it is not sold as specfic to that application as a part number, certainly not listed by Steele, I also think not by the other high priced poor service suppliers that I will not deal with any more.

BUT, there is a hope, on my 2 door Suburban I cut the old rubber and using the cross section and the Steele universal listings and came up with the rubber that I think will work.

There are two different rubbers on the sliding side windows, one is used to hold the fixed glass in that has a lip to the outside and this rubber is also used on the back side windows, and there is a U channel stiffer rubber that is for the sliding glass. I have both of these and have quickly test fitted the lipped one and it looks good so far. They might not be exact but they are close, ... like there is a choice.

So you can do what I did ... or I will get you the part numbers for you with sufficient pleading on your part and when I feel like it.

Old Ray, thanks for the help and the humor! I have gone the same route as you. I actually live close to Steele Rubber and have purchased some pieces. But like you, it will take some creative gumption to make anything work. I was hoping there would be someone out there that has a parts car with the rubber intact because I'm lazy and anything from the OEM has got to fit better than what I will come up with.

Are you sure, I think (hope) that I am fairly close, we can exchange part numbers someday.

Plazaman - 2020-10-07 9:56 AM Old Ray, what did you use for your subframe?

Dakota. The frames at the sweet spot (just before the front body mount) are exactly the same size.

Any chance of getting the Steele part number for the lower sliding window U channel seal you used? I'm doing a '57 Dodge 2-door wagon and can't find anything that will fit. I got the fixed glass seal from Goers, but neither he nor Quirey have been able to provide the lowers. And I didn't see anything in Steele's online catalog that looked right. Any help would be appreciated.

.
Is that channel a metal "U" lined with fuzzy material?

If so, it is likely that your local Old (Chevy and Ford) Car Centre will have very good stuff .

At mine I got one stick of the wider channel with the chrome (stainless) edges for the rear vertical and upper horizontal piece (one piece, bent) . It was called ZRC-528 and was $40 for the 8 ft section. Measured the old one and it was a tad over 48" so the one stick will do two front doors for that piece.

The other stick is a Y-614 "Rigid Vent Channel" and it fits inside the vertical frame that extends down from the rear of the vent window. The length looks to be 29" so 8 ft might do three doors. $32 for the 8ft stick. It has stainless edges.

I am guessing that the Y-614 will work for your slider, at least at the bottom and the ZRC-528 might be answer for the upper bendy bits.

I do not know if the '55-'56 is the same as the '57. Not sure what you mean by lower ?

These are the Steele numbers that I came up with for my '56 two door wagon;

The non-sliding side windows - 60-0059-83

The sliding side windows - 70-3577-58

The lower track/seal the sliding window sits in. It appears to be U-shaped, 1/2" wide and 1/2" high with a lip on one or both sides maybe 3/4" wide. My original is too far gone to be sure what it should look like.

I think the track/seal goes all the way around the sliding window.

My original seal appears to have had a 3/4"-1" lip on the outside that laid on the body, and maybe one on the inside too. All I have left is the channel and a lip halfway down, for both sides of the car.

Yes, that is the other number, the fixed non-sliding glass one (I think). I have trial fitted it and it looks OK. (good enough for a fat old turd anyway).

Possibly. The second one, with the lip, appears to be for setting fixed glass. The sliders need to be able to, well, slide. I'm still looking. I may end up with a combination of the first plus a lip seal.
