Location: Muskego, WI | I believe the answer is yes, but I was wondering if it is possible to swap entire front subframes between my 1960 and 1961 Plymouths? Has anyone done such a thing? I really don't see any reason to keep my 1960 Belvedere 2 door sedan after I get my '60 wagon on the road, but selling it won't bring back near the amount of money I have into it (and I'd lose all the sweat equity as well). I'm still quite partial to my 1961 Savoy, but it is a slant 6 and 3 speed on the column. If I strip the front sheet metal, disconnect the wiring, linkages, fuel and brake lines and everything else, block up the bodies, can I unbolt the subframes and roll them out from under the cars and swap? Would be nice to roll the front suspension with engine and transmission all in tact (with a dolly under the torsion bar cross member) from one car to the other.
The bulk of the money in my '60 sedan is in the updated and rebuild drivetrain (engine, trans, clutch, drive shaft, exhaust), I'd like to roll it over to the '61. The '61 could use my nice seat, power steering and floor pans as well. Then I could snag my windshield, wheels and tires over to the wagon and then part out the remains of the '60 body and '61 subframe/drivetrain. There'd be more work to do, but not spending any more money.
Thoughts/advice appreciated. Thanks. |

Location: Muskego, WI | Thanks Chas, I'm just very torn on what to do with my '60 and '61 sedans. I'm more likely to keep the '61 as I'll still have the '60 wagon, but the '60 has all the floors replaced and is more solid in general. I'm either going to swap my whole 318 w/ 5 speed along with PS subframe over to the '61 or maybe my dad and I will put the little 270 Dodge Poly with '59 3 speed with Borg-Warner overdrive in the '61 and keep the manual steering and column shift. |
