I had to replace the fuel pump on my '58 Plymouth poly 318.

While the pump is out, I stuck a finger into the fuel pump hole, I can really move that timing chain. At what point should I be concerned about the chain being too loose?

Check the play at the distributor as you move the motor back and forth. If the play is more than 10-15 degrees, you should definitely change it.
