I saw this car on marketplace, and I think there is a fair chance this is Virgil's old car. 1963 Imperial in black with a red interior, very original car. It doesn't technically fit in this section, but given the possible history with it, I think it would be an absolute tragedy for it get derbied. Factory red interior from what I can tell, the similarity between it and the car he owned is uncanny. Not too far from Birmingham, either. I can't tell if it's a Crown or not, I'm not as sharp with the 1963s, but maybe someone else here can?

What on god's green earth leads you to believe this is Exner's car? The seller mentions only that it was his dad's car, and maybe has a southern US background due to it's solid condition. I certain that the son would've heard if the car had been owned by the guy who was the most famous designer of mid-century Chrysler products....

Sorry, I thought I put the excerpt from his biography as the first image, but it must not have uploaded. I said it was his because this car matches everything said about his old car? He passed away in 1973. That leaves nearly fifty years of car lots and second hand owners for the Exners' personal cars to pass through. Although he's quite famous today, he didn't really get much praise until the past 20-30 years. Further proof of this is a complete lack of their old cars to survive, other than his Karmann-Ghia that Jr. owns, or did. Has anyone found his black 1957 Imperial? Mildred's blue 1957 Plymouth? If they had carried a celebrity status like you imply, there would be more of their cars surviving today, and unfortunately, there aren't. I posted it because I thought someone might enjoy looking into it, better to have found out it wasn't than find out it was the hard way, after the car has been parted, derbied, or lost.

Well, I guess with 6,960 crown 4dr Hardtops built, this one could be a match then. But you'd need copious documentary evidence to prove the original owner. Good luck with the purchase!

Well, Ex Jr. is still alive and well. Somebody ask him if this was Dad's personal car.

And in my eyes, that is not a red interior. Its Chrysler's "Claret" vinyl with cloth.
