The wiper arms on my '56 Plymouth are unrepairable junk and so far, I haven't found a source for suitable replacements. I'm not looking for NOS or even used OEM parts, and would actually prefer using a splined adapter and more modern designs, so wiper blades can be purchased off the shelf.

Has anyone done the research to come up with modern parts that would work? I found several ANSCO 1/4" to 1/2" splined adapters, so that shouldn't be a big problem, but I couldn't find a catalog or another source that compares and describes all their products in detail. It would be nice to have bright stainless steel arms instead of the modern black finish, but I could refinish them if the fit is okay.

Any ideas?

I prefer to use the originals and just replace the wiper elements in them. To replace the pivots would be pretty tough as they seal and fit the contour of the cowl. Most modern cars don't have a cowl like we do. '56 was the last year that these pivots were visible from the outside of the car. But if you are intent on doing it, you might be able to adapt something from the '55-'57 Chevy, or '56 Ford. Not sure that would accomplish what you are trying to do.

Try a pair of Anco 41-02 that's what I wound up with on my '55.

I was considering that option as they are the ones I have on my '64 Valiant, but I reworked them to eliminate the unattractive angle adjustment and now they look almost stock. To accomplish the modification, I removed the solid stainless arms from the stock wipers and reinstalled them on the ANCO 41-02 arm. That worked out very well for the Valiant as the part sizes are compatible, but the solid part of the stock '56 arm is smaller than the ANCO, so I'll need a different modification.

Yesterday I ordered '64 Mustang arms, as the length looks and measures very close to the stock '56 parts. However, since the sweep pattern is different, as is the park angel, I will have to rework the passenger-side Mustang arms by drilling out the rivets that attach the solid arm, flip it over and re-rivet. An alternative, if the angle is wrong, will be to make the solid arms from a piece of stainless steel.

If the Mustang arms are close enough in length, I will also have to order 1/4" to 1/2" splined adapters .

If my planned modifications don't work, I'll probably order and use the 41-02 arms the way they are.
