Extreme Veteran Posts: 531 Location: Park Hills, KY | I need parts for a 61 TF. I need: Front and Rear bands, trans mount, parking brake setup. Anyone out there know of any of these available? I tried usual sources, Fatsco, etc, and no luck. Was hoping to use a 61 318 and TF combo in my 58 Belvedere, but absent these parts, I am back at square one looking for a motor and trans, as I am not sure if a 61 block will work with any other year torqueflite.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 531 Location: Park Hills, KY | Now I’m told that to use the 61 in my 58, I’ll need a different cable. (Thanks John). I was under the impression that the 61 318 and TR would bolt into my 58 without modification. Anyone have any experience on this before I go off the deep end with either money or patience!?!?

I bought re-lined front and rear bands for my 57 Windsor cast-iron A-466 from Fatsco. It depends if they have cores to reline already as to how much time you will have to wait. Either way, you have to send in your bands to get the core charge refunded (or not charged). Mopar Mall has both kinds of TF cables: The 56-59 Cable: https://www.moparmall.com/Plymouth-Dodge-DeSoto-Chrysler-Shift-Cable... "Specify year, make and if PowerFlite or Torqueflite when ordering. On 1959 models with TorqueFlite, specify if push-in or screw-in transmission end" (The 61 TF will have the screw-in type end at the trans) Edited by 56D500boy 2020-08-25 7:24 PM

I have put a '58 Imperial transmission into a '61 New Yorker in the past. The 57-59 and 60-61 have different ends at the transmission end but are the same on the push button end. You will need the 1960-1961 cable for the '61 transmission. The overall length is different as well. I'm not sure which is longer vs shorter, it worked for my 58 to 61 conversion but you may want to double check the length for yours. Also, the parking brake cable is different too. One has a longer tube on the transmission with a shorter cable. You'll need the correct corresponding year backing plate on the parking brake to match whichever brake cable you have. If you're already sourcing a complete parking brake assembly, just make sure it's for the same year as your cable.
