The 318 in my'60 Plymouth Fury is starting to show signs that it would be time for a rebuild. I haven't really put too much thought on it as the car still works pretty well. However, a fellow offered me a rebuilt 361 that he says is from 1965. The engine seems to be decently rebuilt, according to documents I've seen. The most appealing thing is the price: it's cheaper than rebuilding the 318 would cost. The question is what needs to be changed if swap to 361? Here are a couple of things that come to mind:

- Front springs
- Engine mounts
- Exhaust from headers
- Transmission. Will the original 3-speed TF work with 361?
- Generator, starter, power steering pump and fitments
- Fan
- Radiator

Can't think of anything else, but I'm sure there are more knowledgeable people here who can add whatever I've missed.

Your main issue is that the motor is from 1965, so the crank flange will be different that your 1960 motor. Therefore, your torque converter and transmission will not be able to be installed to the 361. If you use the newer trans that actually mates to the later motor, I believe you will have issues with push button functionality as the newer trans have "Park".

Thanks jboymechanic! Just the kind of knowledge I was after. Unfortunately a showstopper, since the transmission in my Fury had a costly rebuild by a professional last winter. Works like a dream now and I expect it to do so for the rest of its life.

Actually the 318 has the SB bell pattern vs the BB pattern. On the SB there's a bell & crank flange change beginning with the '62s.

Agreed with JBoyMechanic, I've run into that issue.
