| I am interested in obtaining any original woven upholstery fabric for the 56 Desoto, no vinyl. Not looking for new reproduction fabric like SMS has for sale, only original fabric . Style 551,552,553, 566,567,568,563,564,565, 555,556,557,558,559,560,561,562 and 569 are good, any color. |

Location: The Great Northwest | Since you are not looking for any particular color or style, SMS does have rolls of original (not only modern manufactured) fabric in their inventory. When I wanted original fabric and vinyl for my 61 NYer they had a roll of fabric and a roll of vinyl made in 1961 so I bought all of it. The upholsterer even mentioned that the fabric and vinyl were from 61 when he started the restoration of the seats and door panels. You may be able to request fabric that was made in 56 instead of new fabric and see if they have any left in stock.

| For the S-24 Fireflite the combination 555 numbers are - solids- 315,316,317,355,356, two tone numbers 390,391,392,393,394,395,396,397,398,399, 434,435,436,437
For the Sportsman and Convertible- combination 560- solids- 305,306,330, 356. Two tone - 380,381,382,383,384,385,386,387,408,409

After all, I finished collecting data about 1956 DeSoto Trim Codes…
My guesses were correct. You are confirmed it. But I was wrong about 859, 860 and 861 codes – actually they are 863, 864 and 865

But it is 1955 DeSoto Order Codes. Do you have something about 1956 Order Codes?

| You are welcome, my family owns 8 textile mills here in North and South Carolina . We wove the upholstery for the the 1956 Desoto's. Growing up I heard many stories from my Grandfather and Uncles about dealing with Chrysler, it seems after the 57 Desoto's went into production Chrysler wanted to ship back all the leftover fabric from the 56 Desoto and get a refund. They were asked if there was a quality problem with the fabric and they said "' No'', just ordered too much fabric on certain designs and colors. We replied all sales were final. We also wove upholstery for the 1955 Pontiac's for GM. In our mill's warehouse we still have original rolls of fabric for the 56 Desoto. Fabric still looks great !!!! |
