Hey gang..
New to the board.. I have a friend locally here in the Houston area I'm trying to help, locate for him a proper starter for his 1961 Chrysler 300G, 413 Long ram. What makes this starter unique. Is it true 61's are different than 62-63?

Attached is a picture of the apparent starter he needs he found on the net and then the location for the starter on his particular car..

Cheers,
Troy

Welcome to the board.

The starter you need is direct drive (P/N 1889200) with no nose pilot, not unique to the 300, it was used on most '59-'61.

Starting in '62 most Mopar starters were gear reduction with a nose pilot that fits in a pocket in the bellhousing. Standard shift applications being the exception.

You can also use a mini starter from IMI. I just put one into my '58 DeSoto. See this thread: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=66444&...

Good notice, I had to go back and revisit the pictures. Pretty cool. Would that be a floor shift? I’d like to see interior pics.
