I'm tackling a project on my 59 dodge cr 361 ...  The Exhaust system .

I could use some images of the oem routing from engine to mufflers  . somone had installed a y pipe from a newer model  and exits on the pass side . the crossover from the drv side was pinched 95%  shut from hitting the steering linkage . what a butcher !   anyway ........... I'm going to build  dual exhaust for it. also the exhasut manifolds are from a 71 bigblock  so the driverside manifold exits  between the last 2 cylinders instead of like the center for oem manifolds. manifolds have 2.5" dumps .  the old Y pipe had 2" pipes off the manifolds. this new 2.5" system is going to be struggle to get in there  from what I can see. soooo  with the wrong manifolds,   a new oem  exhaust system won't even fit correctly  . It has to be a custom built system .on my 59 dodge  , It appears head pipes route above the trans  mount  on the outer side of the torsion bars.

what are you all running on your bigblock  58-59  full frame fwlk's ?

Thanks !

.
1959 Dodge Wagon with 361 single exhaust but you can see some of what you need to know, as in up and over the trans/torsion bar mount cross member.

Thanks Dave  for the pics , they were helpful !

Yes , mine had just the opposite y-pipe design .

In your pics.............Appears drv side pipe will ride  the inner  side of torsion bar and then over the cross member . geeee,  that's going to be a snakey route. I looked up in the shop manual and it says 2"  head pipes and 1.75" tails for royal and cr bigblock.

Tough thing on any torsion bar car is running exhaust, one big downside to the suspension system. You'll also have to avoid fouling on steering components and should try and avoid having the exhaust hanging below the frame rail, I've seen so many FWL cars with scuffed mufflers from bottoming out. It's best tackled by a shop with a hydraulic tubing bender and some guys who have patience and experience. Trying to piece it together yourself might work fine in performance, but will likely not have the stock appearance. Good luck though! Always cool to see exhaust routing on these beasts.

Update ::
I finished the custom built exhaust system on my 59 dodge custom royal 361 . 2.25" front to back flow master 40's mufflers . sounds awesome ! I tried two places to upload a video with no luck . can't figure how to do it. I tried youtube and photobucket.
anyway , it's done and it wasn't a easy project .
