Member Posts: 38 | I believe this is the correct carb for a 1957 392 Hemi in an Imperial or New Yorker (according to documentation that I found from Carter and Chrysler Corp.). The carburetor is a Carter AFB 2448S (note in the picture where I used soap stone to highlight the stamp). The carb needs to be restored. From what I can tell, the accel pump, choke, and choke pull-off linkage is there. The curb idle set screw is bent a little, and the choke/throttle plates are frozen, but the casting appears to be in good shape. Choke housing/coil is missing. Asking $150 + shipping. I also have the matching intake (1731703), if interested. Thanks, JJ Edited by jj94tt 2020-03-26 9:20 PM (IMG_5117.JPG) (IMG_5120.JPG) (IMG_5115.JPG) (IMG_5116.JPG) (20181103_152043.jpg) Attachments ---------------- IMG_5117.JPG (125KB - 178 downloads) IMG_5120.JPG (136KB - 204 downloads) IMG_5115.JPG (134KB - 192 downloads) IMG_5116.JPG (160KB - 220 downloads) 20181103_152043.jpg (141KB - 202 downloads)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9894 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . 2448S = PN 1731 514 for the 1957 New Yorkers and Imperials, C76 and IM, 3 speed Auto but not C76 w/Power Package. (According to page 14-35 in the 1955-58 Mopar Parts Catalogue) There is another one out there on the internet for sale but for much more. At $150, this one might be a bargoon. If it’s frozen then it’s not a good deal . Last frozen carb I bought my carb man could not unfreeze it and it went in the bin . Most times they can be freed up though , but at $150 I don’t think it’s a bargain as I’ve seen many on eBay the last 2 years under $100 , I just bought the better later 58 2806s version totally complete unmolested for $125 inc shipping . I already asked the seller about buying this one , but wasn’t keen on paying $150 in its condition . Edited by The Adventurer 2020-03-26 10:30 PM

James: You have mis-judged the situation and what I way trying to say. All I was trying to do was point out that the 2448S application was as Justin suggested (57 New Yorker and Imperial 392) and that there was currently another 2448S available (from Bluestar Performance) but at considerably more money (US$600), making Justin's a bargain if one was in the market for a 2448S. Okay? No knickers in a knot here. Edited by 56D500boy 2020-03-28 12:37 PM

Member Posts: 38 | Hello guys... this IS the one that was on ebay with the intake. I am sure that the shipping cost to Australia is not friendly... sorry about that. Regarding the price, hard to set when there are few comparables (I have not seen any on ebay, only the blue star one). I don't think $150 is bad if you are looking for THIS carb. Obviously, you can buy a new AFB type carb if you aren't looking for the correct carb for a specific application. You do have a point about the throttle shafts being frozen. I thought these could usually be rebuilt... maybe it would be worth my time to disassemble and see if I can free them.

Elite Veteran,, James Passed away March 2021, He will be Missed Posts: 1028 Location: Melbourne, Australia | It probably isnt that bad if it were all freed up , but like i said if the shafts were free you could be guaranteed it would rebuild up ok . It probably will free up ok , but some cant be and then you are in trouble as i got caught last time and my carby guy is a guru on Carters and Quadrajets , as i always thought any carb could have the shafts unfrozen . Problem is if you try and free them up do not force anything otherwise you may do damage , just saok it i guess and see what happens . If an aussie was to buy your carb and have it shipped at asay $100 post and then tax , it would owe them like $500 australian dollars by the time it was converted . Then $350 -$400 to rebuild plus postage to and from the carb shop , on the hope the shafts are ok , there is the problem .

Member Posts: 38 | Hello all... its been 6 months and this thing is just in the way. Realistically, I am not going to find time to take this apart and try to free the shafts. Any thoughts on its value as-is?

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9648 Location: So. Cal | The number of people wanting to keep an original (realistically too small) single 4bbl carb on their 392 hemi is very limited. I wouldn't pay more than $75 for it. But the filter on the side of it is kinda cool, and may be worth $20, so $95 seems like a fair price.
