Very cool!  I like the use of "Turbo Flash"

where do they use that engine name?  I've heard it before, but I could find no references in the owners reference book.  couldn't find it in the service manual either. Was it just an advertising?

They use it in the service bulletins and in the advertisements. I think it may have been a later decision and didn't make it to everything. But it's odd because the engine was a brand new design and only standard in the DeSoto line.

Nice!  I knew I had seen that before, but I was surprised it wasn't in the owner's manual.  That's where Dodge had all their engine names.  It doesn't sound like they distinguish between the 350 and the 361.  Both were the Turboflash.

That all leads me to kind of favor the Turboflash no V-8 design.  It shows it as all one word, consistent with the ads.  The V-8 might be superfluous since no in-line 8s or 6s were available (at least for US passenger cars - brings up an interesting point for Diplomats and the foreign De Soto truck production).

That De Soto script is not easy to replicate!

Good point, the '55-'59 DeSoto used a unique font on it. In my mind, I thought the Sportsman font was different, but it's really just the "S" that looks more script like. The font also has that very odd backward slant to it that you'll never see on any other font. I made a first attempt at it and came up with this - and a poorly colored version. And because of the slant, it might look better with the emblem in the reverse position like the last one.

The previous owner of this car got it from the back of an autoshop in N. Hollywood/Studio City. He recently posted a picture of it as he found it back there. I get the feeling they weren't very serious about working on it.

The universal upper radiator hose blew a tiny hole in its accordion folds while driving. Very annoying. Then it stopped for some reason. So I suspected that the thermostat had stuck. I took it apart and found that the thermostat was stuck open. That doesn't make a lot of sense, but whatever. So I replaced the hose & thermostat. I found that the battery wasn't charging as well, so I replaced the generator & regulator. There was an issue with the regulator wiring harness that I am sorting out now. But hopefully, after these are fixed I can drive it again. I'm really liking the way it's looking with dual rear antennae back on the car as it originally had.

I've been driving this car to many car shows recently. Today, I took it to Filmore but didn't enter into the show. The generator, voltage regulator, radiator hose and thermostat worked perfectly but the power seems to be held back at times. I will try retarding the timing as I could hear it start to ping going up a steep hill, but I doubt that is the whole problem. I will also purchase a new set of wires that are compatible with the headers. I know I have at least 2 wires that are touching the headers, so it could be shorting out the spark there. I also know that 2nd gear in the transmission isn't happy, but that's not something I can fix very soon. It doesn't seem to hinder me much because I spend very little time in 2nd gear. But I may try swapping it out at some point.

A stuck thermostat wouldn't stop the leak in the upper hose. It would increase the pressure in the system due to overheating and increase coolant loss

What carb are you running? I have always heard that when you install headers you may have to enlarge the jets in the carb because it tends to run leaner because of the better flow.

It's a later AFB from around 1961. I think it was made for a 413, if I remember right. So it's probably running rich. I probably should use the jets for a 383, I guess. I retarded the timing and replaced the plug wires that were touching and that did seem to help quite a bit.
