Looking for comments and help here.  I found a 59 Imperial that is amazingly complete, and have found most all damaged or missing parts.  One part that seems impossible to get is the steering wheel center portion (see photo).  I am proposing to make a clay one on the chrome frame, then fiberglass it to make a mold, then use the mold to make a foberglass part that can be painted or covered with vinyl.  Has anyone done this or has any helpful suggestions?

i would think make the padding and simply glue vinyl on it, that vinyl color would be hard to find with the pressed pleats though. I would get a center flat piece and two pleated sides of marine vinyl and make a cover. It would be very close.

This one looks like it was made and hand stitched, and probably pulled over top of a very high density foam cut to shape.

Just for information of others, I found a Imperial owner in Sweden who is making these for the 57,58, and 59, they are each different. He is bringing me one to the Pate Swap Meet in Ft Worth next month. Life is good!
If you look closely, that green 57 or 58 in those photos is in need of a new one also, look closely at each end of it. There are no stitches, those are just lines molded into the piece.
