Elite Veteran Posts: 1018 Location: Milwaukee Wisconsin | starting a new thread on why my 59 dodge cr 361 cast iron 466 torqueflite trans won't shift into reverse. car has ben sitting for atleast 8 years . dumped in a bottle of trans X to soften rubber seal conditioning . trans shifts into drive neutral and first gear ok. just no reverse . the gear shift pod buttons were all sticking so I double d40 all that and the buttons pop backout now. I started to check all adjustments here is what I found >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ok so I ......... checked the throttle linkage today and that was way off.. as you can see I had to move the throttle by carb adjustment 3/4" also had to adjust the slide on the trans lever too. . will start it up again when weather is better and see if that made any changes to the way it shifts. It's a start . you just have to check everything when you purchase a car you know nothing about . someone may have tried to fix it and really scred it up. I kind of knew something was set up wrong when I seen the accellerator pedal was almost on the floor . I set it up to according to the mopar service manual says . carb linkage 1/2" from firewall and loosen thottle lever linkage slide and holding tension back on bell crank rod and hold lever in trans forward while tightening slide. done.. things were way off. that a466 sure has a lot of parts inside . Expert Posts: 3777 Location: NorCal | External linkage has nothing to do with Reverse. The pushbutton shifter pulls on the cable for "1" and pushes the cable for Reverse. If you can eyeball the shifter from under the dash, verify that the cable moves when shifted from Neutral to Reverse. If it does, the problem isn't the shifter. Again, have you tried adjusting the rear band?

Best is to remove oil pan and looks at the manual lever if it moves in each position. http://www.ch300imp.com/tqf-sw.htm

Elite Veteran Posts: 1018 Location: Milwaukee Wisconsin | Thanks Phil ! I appreciate all your info on this issue you guys !! now that the bottle trans x has been in the car now for a few days, maybe the seals might be softening up some and help the shifting issue.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1018 Location: Milwaukee Wisconsin | Really Good News to report .........Here is what we found out to correct the no reverse issue. when to adjust the reverse band and long and behold the the lock nut was back way off. ALL loose and tangling there. Sooooooooo , set it up according mopar repair manual and pushed the REVERSE button and away she went .What a relief !! so all gears are working the way they should now. just a simple fix.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9903 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Well that is great news. I have a A-466 being rebuilt (which will be done Wednesday) and I have no clue whether it will work or not. (It needed a new front pump and both bands plus plus plus). Consider yourself lucky
