The worm shaft has one small steel piston ring. Where can I buy one of these?
I have a seal kit installed , only the piston ring is needed.

The steel ring is outer diameter 24,6mm, width 2,36mm and 0,95mm thickness. The outer diameter is not accurate since the old ring was in three parts.
In the kit I bought was no steel ring but there was a plastic ring with the same measures as the steel ring so it is possible it is replacing the steel ring.
Has anybody run into this or are you all using the rebuild companies?

Is it the indicated ring you're refering to? If so, yes, you could use the plastic ring.

Yes it is that ring. I actually already used the plastic ring but I havent started up the engine yet. I am not sure if it is going to work
with the plastic ring since it is impossible to get it in the groove without stretching it. I shrinked it with a spanner but I am afraid it might leak.
Thank you wizard!

Those rings must be stretched for to allow mounting. I normally press the ring with the fingers for to shrink it back.

The ring should not leak unless you didn't held the parts together with a dowel during mounting.

Try RedHead Steering in Auburn WA (near Seattle) for the parts you need. When I took my 1960 Plymouth Fury steering box for them to rebuild, they already had 3 on the shelf all done for me to choose from.
