You want to do this because you do NOT want to go through the nightmare of replacing a broken cowl vent hinge, like I had to.

Much easier to remove the bug screen and use one of those red "straw" nozzles on your favourite rust removing lubricant (PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, Moovit, Mopar Combustion chamber cleaner, WD40, etc) to spray lubricant onto the two hinge points and then, after bit of soaking time, using the cowl vent lever to exercise the cowl vent a few times. Then repeat a couple of more times before re-installing the bug screen. You will be much happier than the alternative, trust me.

I second that. What a PITA when the hinge breaks from metal fatigue.

Terrance: Agree. Your solution for your 55 Plymouth was probably better/easier than my solution, *HOWEVER* yours involved the removal of the heater duct and, while I knew that, I did NOT want to open another potential can of worms just now. Hence my "laproscopic surgery" (blind) approach.

Could you find and post the photos from your solution here so they could be more easily found by the next victim of this issue in the future? (Please)

Thanks for re-posting your photos Terrance. Reviewing them, I would say that your solution is better than mine in the sense that a) it doesn't require drilling holes in the cowl and b) I think that bolt that you attached the hinge point-strap to *IS* accessible even with the heater duct/box still attached. Good job.

That said, getting that hinge point strap just right must have been a challenge.

Thanks.

Again folks, make sure that you lubricate and exercise your cowl vent hinges - or suffer the consequences.
