Location: The Mile High City | I snapped a few images of the De Soto this beautiful summer evening. I added some kitsch: a hula girl on the dash from Hawaii, Littleton Fire Department badges to each interior door, a Littleton Fire Department coin to the glove box door, and Fireflite buttons on the front fenders - all easy to remove. It is always a little sad to see summer come to a close! Location: The Mile High City | The "third clock" is actually a altimeter that John Quinn gave me (such things only Rocky Mountain Regioneers need, I suppose). I have had the altimeter up above 12,000 feet above sea level! The hood ornament is a '51 Pathfinder that I converted to fit the '58. It can be easily removed and replaced with the jet. I do have it rigged with a little switch, battery, and light bulb so it can light up at night. I've grown fonder of the Pathfinder - it has spent most of the summer on the hood. A thread about it:

I've taken my old VW bug across I70 from Utah to Denver many times. Had to prop the hood wide open to prevent it from completely dying on the hills....

Veteran Posts: 110 Location: Falcon, CO | I drove my 57 Coronet to the summit of Pikes Peak (14,110 ft.) back in the late 1980s when it was still my daily driver. It didn't run well at all towards the top. I should have stopped and advanced the timing; I'm sure that was likely the issue as I didn't know at the time that I needed to do that for the altitude. I should try it again once the road is open to the top again (construction has the road closed for the next few years) to see how it does now that everything has been rebuilt. By the way, great photos, Mike! So when are you going to bring it down for one of the Springs shows? Don H.

Location: The Mile High City | Thanks, fellas! Nathan, if you have been above 8,500 - you may be a solid candidate for an altimeter! I wish Hernando was a bit brighter when on, but the effect is still pretty cool.
Don, I wonder which paved road is actually higher, Pikes or Evans? My ForwardLook cars have never even made an attempt under my ownership. I do have to go south! The De Soto has two buzzy bees from the Golden Bee and I love to visit the Springs. I have been woefully negligent this year in not posting the event schedule!

Veteran Posts: 110 Location: Falcon, CO | Mike, Mt. Evans is higher than Pikes Peak. But I have never been up Mt. Evans so I don't know if the paved road goes all the way to the top or not (the Pikes Peak road is paved to the top). If you happen to head down to the Springs sometime, please let me know. I'd love to meet up with you with the Dodge if the weather permits (I live off of a dirt road, so I don't take the Dodge out if the rain is coming down - takes too long to clean it up afterwards!). Veteran Posts: 291 Location: Colorful Colorado skier on the license plate | The Mount Evans scenic Byway is North Americas highest paved road at 14,130' and does not go to the top. A few years ago, some of us were silly enough to ride bicycles up there. Note we started at Echo lake 10,659', still dodging ice and snow. My first time driving up Mt. Evans was in a 58 Desoto Explorer. Hypoxia/Anoxia are the words up there, There is an oxygen station up there when officially open. Not free take cash. Edited by RICKYMOPAR 2019-08-22 8:10 AM

Location: The Mile High City | Interesting odometer reading when I pulled into the garage tonight! Predicted early taste of winter this week!
