Expert 5K+ Posts: 9896 Location: Lower Mainland BC | I was just poking around looking for something and came across an upcoming auction for a white 56 300B. Buried in the 23 photos on the site were photos of the transmission buttons (5 not 4 = Torqueflite (at least in theory)) and the VIN number. For 56 the 300 B VINS ranged from 3N561001 to 3N562150. The unicorn in question has a VIN of 3N561899, so closer to the end of the run than to the beginning. We know from previous investigations that some 56 300Bs and Imperials got the 3spd Torqueflite near the end of the model run. This appears on the surface to be one of them. If there was a photo of the body plate, it would show the approximate build date which might corroborate the "near the end of the run" theory. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9896 Location: Lower Mainland BC | 60 dart - 2019-08-07 3:08 PM shifter face plate is wrong ? Not as far as I know. The 56 Imperials with TFs had a smooth chrome five hole face plate. Even the 2 spd PowerFlites in 56 Imperials had smooth chrome (4 hole) faceplates >

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9896 Location: Lower Mainland BC | That white 2dr hardtop was the first one that I had seen with the 3 spd TF. Just now, while looking for an example of a 56 Imperial Powerflite (smooth-faced) faceplate, all I could find for a while was 56 Imperials with TFs (and five hole smooth chrome shifter faceplates) One such example:
