WOW. That is *VERY* yellow, i.e. you might have to provide viewers with sunglasses (even at night)

Awesome mate.

Now for the long wait for it to arrive in Australia while trying to keep the excitement at bay.
I wonder if they didn't like the emblems/Letters on the bonnet and boot.

You can't upload JPEG's has to be JPG

All the emblems etc are in a box in the trunk...actually the shipping Co in NL ( marlog ) charged me €1399 to ship to Adel. A quality shipping Co & ultra nice people to deal with and a great facility.

Great buy! An impressive looking machine. Amazing how far these cars travel looking for an owner! A pity you arent a bit closer so we can have a gander.

Wish you luck with Customs inspection. I hear they can be a real pain over any potential asbestos in brakes and gaskets? Interested to hear how you go.

From what ive heard this asbestos crap isnt as bad as we hear...i know of a few cars bought in with no mention about asbestos checks..and they pass right thru... all the brakes , master cyl...insulation under hood ..roof lining, firewall lining body deadner under the car ..trans bands changed... most asbestos related items that may contain asbestos has been removed on this car..so the quarantine mob can go hard as they want on it...im not too concerned...just have to see what happens when that door opens. These foreign shippers are aware of procedures here and they wouldnt ship it now if there were issues with this car.. anyways all these old holdens fords foreign cars etc will prob be issued with a decal stating "
this car may carry components fitted with asbestos "
if the gov continues with further regulations And rules..which is where were heading unfortunately... but what is reality ..is that the amount of emmissions making one brand new car is so much worse than an old car can ever emit in its lifetime emitting pollution on the road.. and thats an actual fact !

Too funny. If I'm talking to someone from the US, I call car panels, trunk, hood, rockers. If I'm talking to another Australian I automatically go back to how we say boot, bonnet, sils....

If you need measurements to redrill the badges, I can help you out if need be. Although my coupe is RED ;-) I like it red and not because of a movie. I actually don't like red as a colour but I personally think that the 57-58 body lines are sensualized by the red and white. Meaning the car is more BAM stand out and the curves are more pronounced..

Thanks for your comments guys !!

Whats concerning ..is this asbestos fiasco .. the average personal importer like you and i looks to be paying between $8k-$20k for testing..& its a $3k fine if even any trace elements are found..infact my customs clearance officer mentioned yesterday that one person was actually fined $200,000.00 ??
Just to test 1 brake shoe by a certified hygienist is about $300 & an authorised mechanic has to be hired to be on site aswell to remove & re-fit parts to be tested.
This is why Australia is going backwards being with all these new rules & regulations...we are a laffing stock to the rest of the world .
If any of you Crazy Chrysler Cats out there have any stories to tell regarding your experience regarding this matter ..pls have your say here...
Like, check out this other forum link below with their stories & views..
its just madness !!??

To the Minister of Australian home affairs & infrastructure,

At the end of the day i just wish to import into South Australia , a mere unique classic car from a bygone era... Thats all !!!

.............. Please dont treat me like a criminal & punish me for that .

I put it to you ..that i do not have any intention to import massive tonnes of spent Uranium from lots of foreign countries & charge every Australian tax payer to build a multi million dollar facility in South Australias back yard to store it...
Do you ?
Will you Please reply ?

This is from my favourite importer site.

I use this a lot when I look at American cars for sale here and ones advertised here, but still in the US

They seem to have the asbestos thing sorted

By the way, the car is a 62 plymouth and the site is USA to AUS

All West Coast vehicles that do not have wood as part of their manufacture (eg pickup truck with wooden bed or old vehicle with wood interior) and qualify for our pre-cleaning certification are guaranteed to pass Australia Quarantine upon entry. If they do not pass there will be NO additional cleaning costs charged to you.

The above price includes NATA Approved Asbestos Testing on all West Coast vehicles. If they test positive for asbestos only in the brakes, there will be an A$400 fee for the removal, installation of new brake pads and reinspection. We are working on a similar solution for the East Coast vehicles.

Some of those prices look to be somewhat extreme especially the hand-over and broker fees...

I dont know
With the handover, someone from the company physically has to go wherever the car is to hand over the payment, so time is money
and the broker fees is to pay them for all the paperwork that they are handling/doing, bit like a lawyer or conveyencer when you buy a house

What I think is a stitch up is the Fremantle port fees being double anywhere else. Its just not worth the difference to land it in Adelaide and drive it
to Perth

For those that dont know, Fremantle is Western Australia/Perths port and Adelaide (the next closest) is about 2500km away

Within 2 days of bringing her home ...I started the restoration....ive completely cleaned & redone trunk compartment and undercarriage .. all components have been cleaned & painted... the engine compartment firewall completely re-done in a spek flek...

The engine & trans were leaking due to the car sitting for 30 yrs & the Poly 318 is at machine shop right now getting a 0.30 bore job...have new pistons, rings, gaskets etc & seals etc for the tranny too...should be putting engine back in next week.. i have a roadworthy inspection the following week to allow this baby on the road...

Very nice car. I must ask, why are you doing a motor rebuild on it? Did you do a compression check on it and find some bad news? I'm not saying its a bad idea, as it sure will give you peace of mind for many years to come, I'm just wondering what happened.

With my 318 poly i have in my 58 Belvedere, i asked around at different shops about rebuilding it and apparently its expensive as the valvetrain has to be custom ground for the Poly; such as what I was told the camshaft and the valves have to be all custom for it.
So what did the machine shop you took your motor to say about this?

Actually the engine ran beautifully ..purred like a kitten .. it was only from the leaks i decided to pull out the engine & i was just going to put new gaskets & seal kit thru it only .. there was no way it would pass a roadworthy inspection even with any oil leaks ..
Once the engine was pulled apart the heads looked great ..all valves seat great , the cam looked to have done very little work infact hardly no wear which justifies its only done 38000 miles... all bores looked to be good except one which had a nik in the bore.. ..all signs show it looked to be sitting for yrs at one time ..and at some point someone went to start it & scored this bore.. so its being re-bored 0.30" & new aluminum pistons with premium rings fitted & new timing chain & all bearings only need to be changed...
I know the bottom end on these 318 Poly engines are interchangeable with the later 318ci LA engines ..but the cam & heads are Not !
Hence as to why your looking at custom work to your cam & heads... looks like i got lucky in regards to that.. Goodluck to you and with your rebuild.. cheers

The correct wheels / tires / wheel covers make a world of difference on that car!

When I owned one, it was very similar to yours (I didn't have the cool dual rear antennae).  The other item that makes a huge difference in the look of the car is a full set of bumper wings.

Not easy to find, but well worth it.  They really set off the look of that car.

Regardless, that's a real beauty!

Now that you have your plymouth, you have no need for that buick, it is taking up valuable space. As Christmas is almost upon us, let me help you out of your dilemma. Being the generous person that I am, I will take that buick off your hands for no charge (except freight charges of coarse). Just PM me when you have it ready to go and I will provide you with my address
