Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | go look at my 57 dodge with a 392 thread. You can't fit anything like full length headers in these cars with a 392. Its super tight because of the control arms... you wont find anything so hold onto the stockers.

Sizes, lengths, paths etc. Make sure what you wind up with is worth it!! (header2.JPG) Attachments ---------------- header2.JPG (110KB - 122 downloads)

I checked a bunch of different possibilities in my '58 New Yorker as well including Chinese block huggers, Hot Heads bock huggers, Hot Heads full length, and manifolds. The Hot Heads block huggers were the closest of the headers to fitting, but hit the motor mounts. You would have to modify that front pipe exit to get them to work. But they also dump straight down and would put the pipe under your steering. That would really suck if you have any speed bumps. In the end, you either run original or truck manifolds, or you build your own headers.

Member Posts: 7 | Well looks like I'll have to run stock manifolds unless I build a set of headers . thank you all for the info

Extreme Veteran Posts: 360 | If you want flow and don't mind spending some money you can have the manifolds extrude honed. Its basically a sand slurry that thins the inside walls and contours them according to the way the slurry flows which is fairly representative of air flow. It's a great option when there are no options. I fit the Chinese stainless headers you see on ebay in my 57 imperial. no clearance probs but I also moved the engine forward a bit to better clear the aftermarket brakes and air box on the firewall ( also fit a bigger MSD distributor). 392 hemis are a beast as far as size goes. Not much room for anything or mods. The air box, air filter, and brake set up make for a difficult time with them.
