Hi All,
I never worked on the brakes older than my 58 Belvedere. I need to replace all four cylinders and I don't have a 56 manual, but the wheel cylinders are not coming off. Do I remove or back off the spring loaded studs attached to the backing plate? I have soaked the studs with WD 40.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tony

You can down load a 55/56 Plymouth manual here:

Thanks, that's a great link for free manuals, I downloaded the 55-56 in about 5 seconds. I'll use it anytime I'm working on the Fury.
Thanks again,
Tony

Now I see why no one had an answer on how to replace the wheel cylinders prior to 1957. The cylinders are bolted to the spindle assembly. I'll use the guts from the new cylinders I bought to repair the originals.

Probably not the best idea. If your bore is pitted from corrosion, then you'll just have more problems. You have to disassemble the brakes, then remove the shoe adjusters to remove the wheel cylinders. Kind of a pain, especially if they are original and the bolts don't free up (speaking from experience on my 55 Desoto). But once it's done, you won't have to worry about them for years.
