I have a 59 coronet, were at that point where i want to change out the 325.5 to something more reliable with more power. BBBut i love the push button shifter, does anyone know how i can put a new motor/trans in and maintain my shifter?

There are a lot of discussions on this topic with just as many solutions to ponder.

Which motor are you thinking? This will narrow down which trans. How much power do you what?

There will be oil pan clearance issues, crossmember cutting and parking brake omission or reconfiguration.

My two cents? Keep the the 325 and enjoy the car as is. There is a hemi head option for the Dodge. Bore it out, add a cam and a dual quad set up?

Try the "search" feature too.

Welcome to the board.

The 4-button Powerflite shifter pictured won't work with any later Torqueflte if you want all of the gears. If you change the shifter to a 5-button Torqueflite shifter it will work with any '62-'65 Torqueflite. If you were to retain the 4-button shifter with the later trans you would have to sacrifice the "1" gear position.

If your from the dark side, here is the neatest (and expensive) idea I have every seen. Its for a NAG 1 trans (newer hemi?) using micro switches, just awesome.

i haven't choose the engine/trans yet. i'm basing that on the shifter, its a daily driver so i'm not putting some crazy fast motor in it. I'm more concerned with reliability and a bit more speed. right now were leaning towards the blueprint 408, but are considering the option of putting new hemi heads, intake and rebuilding it. but the 2 speed trans that is in rough shape and leakes something fierce needs to be replaced either way. i'll never race it but would like to be able to pass folks on the highway.

For reliable - just swap in an electronic distributor. $60 on Ebay.
