The fronts are the same through all the lines and body styles, Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler. There were three different manufacturers for the assemblies in 58 and 59, but all can interchange.

The rears are trickier...only hardtop ones will work...and I looked for years to find some for my '57 Chrysler. I started a project to "manufacture" them from a combination of the 1956 Imperial PW assembly, and 1957 manual assembly. It **should** work, but my project has been delayed indefinitely.

Just go to any wrecking yard and pick them out of a power window equipped 2HT
or convertible.

Oh, sorry ..... it isn't 1963 anymore.

When I was rebuilding my 58 Adventurer convertible, the power window package
was one of the utterly unobtainium things I looked for for YEARS ! As my Adventurer
sat in a wrecking yard from 1963 to 1986, someone had done just that and picked
the PW stuff out of it, just as someone had taken all the convertible parts too.

Tough stuff to find 30 years ago. Probably 1000x worse now.

So much misinformation in these two sentences. There were two vendors that supplied p/w assemblies: Auto-Lite and Dura. Parts are unique to each vendor. Interchanges vary by vendor. Example: for one vendor, the 4dr HT rear right interchanges with the 2dr HT front left. But this is not true for the other. In some cases, sedan and HT will interchange.  Also, for one vendor, 57 HT and 58 HT are different. Different assemblies for junior and senior models in some cases.

Best way to know is open the parts book and do your research. That's what I had to do to get the power window assemblies for my 59 Dodge.

I yanked some out of a junker 60 desoto 2 hrdtop out of Wildcat auto wrecking in Sandy, Oregon some 8 years or so ago. They were a direct bolt in for my 61 Pioneer. I rebuilt motors , switches and repair the wiring harness. They work flawlessly and are sure nice to have. Back then I think I paid about $300 for everything including relay/ breaker. You may want to give them a yell. https://youtu.be/OD-_CPalHgc

Well...I'm not giving misinformation, as I have done my research to try and find regulators for my car. But, I didn't elaborate as much as I should have. And I'm talking about whole regulator assemblies, not parts to repair a broken assembly. There were Auto-Lite and Dura in 57-58, and the addition of Hupp in '59

So, here goes:

Front regulator, L or R, 1957-59 Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto, and Chrysler (not Imperial) All body styles and lines use the same.

Rear regulator, L or R, 1957-59 Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler (not Imperial) All 4 door sedans and hardtops. Same part numbers as front regulator assemblies.

Rear regulator, L or R, 1957-59 Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler (not Imperial) All 2 door hardtops and convertibles.

Yes, some of the regulators need to be swaps side to side, or front to back, depending on the individual make/model/body style. Those seem to be on the Suburbans, wagons, and business coupes...

Again, this is just what I have researched from the parts and interchange books. Please feel free to correct me.

The rear quarter regulators are different for 57-58 Plymouth and Dodge 2 door hardtop, won’t interchange with rear quarter window regulators for 57-58 DeSoto and Chrysler 2 door hardtop and convertible and 57-58 Plymouth and Dodge convertibles.

Ah, ok. The parts manual doesn't break out the convertible power window assemblies...

I guess the parts manual and the interchange manual aren't specific enough on these assemblies...but then they never expected anyone to be restoring these cars 60 years in the future.

Is it possible to start a permanent thread, listing the known interchanges and part substitutions? I'b be willing to compile the data, if anyone wants to submit any.

The parts book is very specific as to part numbers for each make and body style and vendor. I had to do this research for my 59 Dodge, which is now set up for power windows.

Also, there were two vendors in 59, Auto-Lite and Dura. No Hupp.

What car are you working on, Brad ?

Ron

Hi Ron,
I'm working on a '57 Chrysler Windsor (Canadian) 2 door hardtop. Almost the same as a U.S. Saratoga.

I wonder if the Canadian vs U.S. manufacturing is the reason there are differences in what I'm finding in the parts books. For example, our books break out the convertible specific parts, for the tops, but not power window regulators. Convertibles (Plymouth and Dodge) were built here, but using partly assembled U.S. bodies, and then finished in Windsor. DeSoto and Chrysler convertibles were imported "complete" (minus radio)

Also, my '59 book lists Auto-Lite, Dura, and Hupp as manufacturing window regulators...Hupp seems to be mentioned mainly for Imperial, although some of the parts are listed as crossing with Auto-Lite for the other makes.

So it may be worth buying a 55-58 Parts Book. Or it may be available online. That is broken out by body style/vendor.
