Neil's widow is ready to part from Horrie now.
I am not (yet) going to spend a lot of words here, most of you know exactly what’s it about.
Horrie currently has 89,540 miles on the odometer.
The horn button is loose and the driver’s door handle sticks, nothing you cannot fix.
Will be sold as-is, preferably local pickup or I could assist with shipping.
Send me your best offer through PM.
Thanks!

Horrie was Neil's pride and joy for decades, and as we all know there was probably no-one who knew more about '57 Dodges. It'd be great if someone here, especially someone Neil knew, would become the next steward of this very special car. I only spoke with him a few times but he was truly a nice guy with a wry sense of humor, and was always willing to help anyone with anything auto related if he could. RIP Neil.

Hi Mike,

D500Neil posted every little detail about his pride and joy here, on the forwardlook website.

I will list details later, just wanted to do this before Christmas.

Mike McCandless - 2018-12-24 4:14 PM Is there a thread with details on the car?

Neils car would be a fantastic car for a true Dodge enthusiast. It is as correct as possible. He truely loved that car. Every time that I check old threads and find his post there's a sting in my heart and a smile on my face. He had a special humor and was always eager to help. He will be remembered forever by a lot of us.

Let's respect Neil's legacy and keep it accurate.  If by "correct", you mean OEM

correct, Neil did much modification to upgrade his brakes from correct 1957 Dodge

brakes.  He made no bones about his work and how he developed the "science"

behind his system and freely shared his intel.  He also was a big proponent to

using non-stock distributors and tweaking them for max performance.

I am still left feeling exasperated over Neil being so suddenly gone.  He was a

pillar of research and knowledge and sadly took much of that with him when he

departed.  I laugh, when I think of him sparring with the motorheads and rodders,

and simultaneously frustrated by the ensuing pissing matches they'd always boil

down to.  He was an odd mix of purist knowledge and practical, restrained use of

mods to make his car go better or safer.  The modders only saw him as a whining

purist, ignoring his own painstaking work to perfect mods using period parts.  If

this car weren't red, I might be moved to buy it, just to preserve the legacy.  But

it belongs in the hands of someone truly dedicated to the car and all that Neil put

into it.

I miss you Neil.  I guess we're all heading in the same direction.  You just passed

the finish line before your time.

Well put, Doc. Just goes to show how fragile we truly are - he definitely left us far too soon.

I put out word out on Bo's business page at Facebook a few days ago. If someone here isn't able to properly caretake for this car, I'm sure Bo or someone in his network would. I knew about the brakes and made that known, but I completely forgot about the electronic ignition.

IIRC, he also installed a fan clutch of some sort from a Jaguar.

I met Neil, Norma and Horrie at the WPC Nationals in Portland, OR, in 1998. They had just driven up from Bishop, CA, and discovered they had no brake lights. They were stumped as to what the problem was. Turned out to be a disconnected wire, which I fixed for them. Neil's wife, who was in a panic, was very grateful.

Neil was a different guy for sure. I’ve always been a forwardlook member since day #1 (member #3 I think) I’ve always been low profile so Neil didn’t know that. Sometimes our paths would cross and I’d share some old historic documents with him. Within a week or so Neil would print them, scan and make them look aged. He’d then post them on here and claimed they were from his long-time archives. He did this often, but I never said a word.

Neil was a nice guy who always answered my emails. I appreciate that. But I’d question just how much info he took to the grave.

As for the car, she’s a beauty. I think you make the most with an online auction and letting all the Dodge people know. This way you draw in the Dodge people AND the regular collectors. The more eyes the better.

Much rather see it go to a real dyed-in-the-wool Dodge person than a collector where it'd be just one of many boxes-checked-off, myself.

Thank you Josh,
Everything Neil collected is still there, the way he left it. Including his digital archive, e-mal , etc.
There's already quite some serious interest for Horrie, here, at the Forwardlook. But if needed, I will list Horrie on some auction site.

Sadly, this is getting nowhere.

Horrie is either going to be sold over eBay or via a classic car dealer that sells on consigment. Concerning the latter, anybody any good advise?

Thanks,

Jim.

Just figure out a realistic expectation of value and post it up on Facebook, Ebay & this forum first, Hagerty & Cars-On-Line.com afterward. Classic car dealers will just take more away from you of what you could have gotten out of it. They have no more advertising power than you do, so what service are they really providing?

Although I think most of us know what the fair market value of our cars is, I think it is wise to show the suggested market value here, but not start some form of an auction, here.

I think most of us know what the $ value of Neil’s car is.

1) April 2018 Old Cars Weekly price guide

2) Hemmings

3) Nada Guides

Looking at Nada, it would be somewhere between average $32,940 and high $50,085

PM me with your offer.

Thanks!

Jim.

Wow, Neil really did keep his engine compartment looking great. The underside has his signature rust proofing too. Even though he could be an annoyance at times, I miss his presence here.

I am very happy for Neil's wife to say that we have reached a provisionally agreement on the sale!

Also very happy Horrie will stay within our ForwardLook community!

I am confident that when all is done we will hear back about Horrie.

Thanks,

Ditto,,, Glad its going to a FL Enthusiast ..

Neil told me part of the History of the Car when we were in Tulsa, and How he originally built it as a Show Car for which it won Trophies, He then decided to just Drive and enjoy it,,

Funnily enough, he offered it to me back in 2007 when i was looking for a FL Car to drive to Tulsa for the Unearthing, Although i always considered it "Tongue in Cheek" offer,, But the figure he hit me with was $35k,, How ironic that it was also the figure suggested recently by members here..

RIP Neil and long live Horrie...

Clive

That could very well have been my red/white 57 CRL D500, that I had for sale back then, @ 35K ...
I eventually sold it to a very nice guy in Sweden, where it stil resides.

Again, I am very happy for Neil's wife. This time to say the sale is final now.

I am confident you will hear shortly from the new proud owner, here on the ForwardLook website!

Thank you all very much!
