I am selling this '56 Dodge 4-door hardtop that was owned by the same owner since new.

The car was a wedding gift to the original owner from her father in 1955 when she lived in Colorado, and she moved to Fremont, Ca. in the mid sixties. The car was parked in her garage in the '80's, and never used again. I did some work to the fuel system, and it will fire up and run well, transmission works well, but brakes will need service and tires need replacing before it can be a driver. No rust in floors and trunk, there is a small rust spot on the lower fender and also in front of the rear wheel opening that will need to be addressed.

Price is $6500, open to reasonable offers. Clear Ca. title as well. Delivery to the port is available for overseas buyers also.

---John

John: Any chance of a clear photo of the cowl tag for the archives?

I am cataloging the various body types and trim codes and this would be a great addition. If you can.

Here's a photo of the data plate-

Thanks John. I need you to confirm some of these numbers:

12 22 = Scheduled build date = Dec. 22, 1955

Body = 821 (?) = 8 = V8, 2 = Royal, 1 = 4 dr hardtop (??). This is the first 4 dr hardtop tag that I have encountered so I'm not sure about the "1".

REFERENCE: 56 Dodge Body Code thread: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=69565&...

Paint = 55 (as in 555 = all Sapphire white)

Trim = 532 (??). I can't quite see it. New data point for the 56 Dodge Trim code thread. Those are seat covers over the factory 56 Royal "Flying Duck" cloth that shows on the door panels.

Monotone paint on a '56 Dodge just doesn't make it. Needs two tone or three tone badly. Hope whoever buys it will consider.................................plus a set of wide whites.

That's one nice solid original car, one that imo should be be gone through mechanically as needed and run without being restored. A good buy for someone who's really into'56 Dodges! '56 Plym and '57 Dodge 4 dr hardtops are my recent most favorites, though age is dimming my old-auto enthusiasm.

I'm dropping the price to $5500.

Need to make some room here, and would prefer this car goes to a good home rather than set out in the weather, especially since it's used to being inside.

An older thread but I believe on the the fender tag the body code is actually 824 not 821. 824 is the code on the tag of my 4 door HT Royal Lancer. So 8 = V8, 2 = Royal, 4 = 4 door HT I'd guess. Very nice car btw!

Unfortunately no. One of the issues with 56 Dodge cowl tags is the Detroit ones are different than the LA plant tags.

There is some info in this thread that you might be able to help us with:

My car's LA plant tag:

Congrats John! surprised it took so long, it's a very decent car at a good price. Now if I could just find a '57, similar model and condition, for that kind of price.
