Does anyone know how these come off? There is no set screw in them so I am assuming they pop off with a snap ring holding them?

There is a square spring involved that needs a the proper KD-435 door handle tool or your ingenuity:

You can make a tool with a slot that goes around the clip and a little 90 degree tab to push on it.

57desoto previously uploaded a diagram to make that non-KD435 tool:

The tool may be wrong but it works for him; I've even used a common screwdriver blade to push on the lock to remove the handle.

You don't need a tool. You can use a screwdriver

So what side of the handle square do you push on?

With the handle down at the 6 oClock position, you push in from the left, i.e. the 9 OClock position

I used a dental mirror to figure out what the heck was holding them in place. It was possible because the door skin was trashed so I had enough gap to see behind the handle. No special tool needed like stated just the right place with a straight slot screwdriver will do it.

Man what a terrific photo. Thank you 56D500boy and everyone else for the great input. I never would have figured that out. My door panels are good and I don't want to scuff them. You guys are an awesome resource.

Ditto on the photo, I did buy one of the KD-735 a few months ago when I saw one for sale on Ebay late one night for $40 instead of the $100+ you normally see them for sale at, and bought it quickly. Both methods work fine.
