I have a 58 plymouth Belvedere with original brake booster that is leaking. I have not seen another car with this same exact setup. It looks to me like a kelsey hayes bellows maybe but has a metal cover over it? Can anyone verify what I have and suggest a supplier?

It's not the Kelsey-Hayes unit (bellows type), that is the Bendix (canister type) unit. When a car got power brakes either unit was used depending upon variables. Lots of other cars have it and it's a better unit in my opinion as there isn't a big rubber bellows to blow out or crack on you.

The Bendix units seemed to end up mostly on Dodges and Desotos, while the K-H units were used mostly on Plymouths and Chryslers. No idea why. They are interchangeable.

In Canadian production models, they all got the metal canister Bendix unit from my experience.

Booster Dewey in Portland OR rebuilds them. They rebuilt the unit on my 1960 Chrysler. http://www.boosterdeweyexchange.com/

Maybe this was a Canadian Plymouth originally? The Dewey Booster website seems to be down or gone. Now that I know to look for a Bendix it might be easier. A rebuild would be ideal since budget is a factor..

Thanks for the tip. I was able to find a local shop that can rebuild it for $245. They had some no longer obtainable seals made up for those particular units and have all the parts in stock so I'll take it in next week.
