You don't see these things very often ever, assuming it's real. The engine bay doesn't look right to me. Did they recarb these things back in the day with just a regular one carb manifold? Shouldn't it still have the ports and stuff for the fuel injection if it was a recarbed car? Data plate is posted if anyone wants to verify. If this is real, and it's just missing the fuel injection parts, good luck finding all the parts. You might have a better chance of getting struck by lightning unless you can get reproductions.

Word of warning: I Googled "1958 fuel injected 300D" and the image search brought up the exact same pics used in this ad from multiple sites. Not sure if the car has been for sale before, or if it's someone trying to scam. Seems like a really unusual car to try and use in a scam though. I think most scammers would go with a car that isn't so exotic, like a Honda, or Toyota or something. Anyone serious about buying this thing is definitely going to do their homework.

Price looks crazy. Gil’s FI car has factory AC. Any difference between AC and “front and rear AC”?  Norm‘s Had standard AC as well.  Should have duals, as that’s what the factory (via dealers) replaced them with.

This car has been for sale before and discussed here on the forum at least once and maybe twice during my membership (since Oct. 2016). However, I can't find reference to this discussion but I know it happened. Those are the same photos that were in the previous ad. I recognized the dark blue engine right off.

But I did find a good 58 Fuel injection thread here:

I believe so. That was mentioned at least once when this car surfaced here the last one or two times. John actually said that it was one of his cars (with damage).

Or so my memory says.

look at the data plate under SO FO it is a number there. This part of the plate is reserved for foreign orders or special orders or so they said.. I never saw letters in there in any US car.

It's for sale again at a much more reasonable price: $15K. Get it now if you want one. You won't find another at that price! Just make sure it isn't a scam first.

It's not in LA. It's in Redmond, a Seattle suburb.

Don’t know if the new ad is real, but from 45k to 15k is a serious realignment. I’m not completely sold on ex-FI cars, but this car looks like a good price and deserving of a restoration. Hope it gets it!

It’s tough if you don’t have FI components, which I think maybe 1 person has

I'm not either but for what it's worth, even if you got the money for one you'll probably never find an FI car with all it's components. If I had the money for one, and I really wanted one, I'd probably just see if I could get all the individual components reproduced. With 3D printing for the emblems and plastic parts and a machine shop for all the metal bits, I'd bet you could make a replica that's pretty close to the original.

I'm not ragging on the whole FI bit, but really....a 50's Mopar with FI is a car that appeals to only a very tiny portion of the automotive world. It's just not that significant. If the setup had been one that ran great and made gobs of extra power - but for whatever reason was super rare - people might clamor for one. But in reality it was a failed attempt, so not so great.

Even if you had a car that had a perfect running FI setup - and no one does - it would be cool but not earth shaking.

At least one person does. Per's car is using all the original equipment, but with some modern electrical components inserted to make it work well.

I know...that makes it not a true example. In order for it to be the real deal, it would need to be functioning as built by Mopar. Is it cool? Sure. But it's not a true-to-form setup.

Is like having a steam car running and blowing real steam form a cooking pot, but has an electric motor and Li-ion batteries hiding in the boiler, which technically make it a prop.

This is exactly where the hobby should be divided. There are clone cars like the Dodge. Neat stuff. It will call attention to the original FI cars and will be seen by the public... but has no historical significance. Then there are cars like this 300, which have some degree of historical significance. But are a tough sell.

Apples and oranges. Both fascinating cars. Great to see the Dodge built AND great to see people talking about a real factory 300D FI car.

It's basically a collector's item. That's why I'd probably never buy one, even if I had the moeny. I don't like buying cars that never get driven because they're too priceless, irreplaceable, and valuable or, in the case of the FI-FL's, just don't work well.

I would however buy a repro or clone with modern components that emulate a factory look. That would be a cool set up to cruise around with. I'd also love to drive a modernized repro of a 60 Plymouth turbine special. That's a cool car.

Who says you can’t drive a car because it’s worth too much or irreplaceable? Show me that person and I’ll show you an idiot.

Life is short. Preserve it, make it better... but drive the wheels off.

I’m not going to own my cars forever, but while I do I’m going to use them like God and Virgil Exner both intended. That’s what they’re for. I hope the next guy does the same.

People saying it isn't collectible. My guess, is completed properly, would hit 150-200k

It would be fun to get, but I would think the owner of an original FI set up has the means should buy it and at least put the car and parts together. $50K would be reasonable for a 'complete' car. I'm thinking $100K for resto and $250K sales price or higher at Barret.

When i see these cars in that condition it is very sad. However I would not buy it for any money do to their rarity and the unobtanium parts missing. Mitchell is going to have a payday..
