On Saturday, May 19, the Florence Merchants Association in conjunction with their car show (the next morning) sponsored a cruise over the Royal Gorge Bridge filmed by Dennis Gage of "My Classic Car." I took the MD II (the "C") and, believe it or not, it didn't collapse the bridge, but I forgot how uneven those timbers are -- BUMPITY-BUMP, BUMP, BUMP! It was pretty neat as I hadn't driven over the bridge since I was a kid.
I must say, the "C" did attract attention -- primarily because the brakes glazed over so they really groaned and howled.

Great, Joe!  We need to get a link to that video - I would really like to see that.  Do you have any images to share?  How many cars were there and was MD II the only ForwardLook?

You know me. I don't have any pics, but I believe the Florence Merchants' Association Car Show web page has a link to some stills of the bridge crossing. You should find it of particular interest that the car immediately behind MDII was the red '60 DeSoto that we've seen around. There were 49 cars (50 were scheduled, but one guy thought it was going to be on Sunday and it was on Saturday) going over and all 49 made it back. The next day at Florence, there were some 400-450, including two, repeat TWO(!!!!!), '55 Dodge La Femmes.
Dennis Gage was more interested in my '65 Sport Fury than the "C" and we chatted a bit about its exterior and interior color (Medium Red Metallic), 426-S engine, and 4-speed, but he didn't interview me on camera as he did with the '60 Fury. He gave me a "My Classic Car" sticker and his cameraman did tape a lot on the exterior, interior, and engine, but since those guys film about twelve hours of stuff for twenty minutes of show, I'm really not expecting it to make the program. But I did enjoy the envious expressions on the faces of the nearby blue oval and red bow tie guys.

We were one of the 55 Lafemmes present and couldn’t believe there was another Lafemme there although I did know of the car as it was out of Denver. We were the 50 th car scheduled to cross the bridge but as stated earlier had our days mixed up.But on a brighter note Dennis Gage did film our Lafemme for his show to air sometime in 2019.Pretty cool deal we were the first one he filmed that day and as he went by our car he stopped and backed up and asked if it was our car and said he wanted to film it.Our Lafemme has become some what of a celebrity as she will also appear on Discovery’s Stick Shock series some time in the next month.

I think I would like that ad more if the woman wore pink lipstick instead.

My wife and I have always been amused by the whole "La Femme" concept. The first car she bought herself was after she graduated from college and started teaching was a used 1963 Corvette convertible. Just the 300 horse 327, but with a 4-speed and no PS, PB, or A/C. About the only real feminine concession she made was the rather doggy "Saddle Tan" exterior and interior color -- she thought it was easier to keep clean and it "went better with her hair." She very easily gravitated to my '65 426 Sport Fury and its successor, a 440 CID '67 Dodge R/T, both of which had heavy duty 4-speeds and no power steering or A/C, just PB. She drove all three as they were supposed to be driven, including an occasional Stop Light Grand Prix, though I couldn't get her to do more than 95 on the Kansas Turnpike (no speed limit then, just "reasonable and prudent for conditions"). All this in high heels and she was a pretty sharp looking chick to boot.

That's funny. My wife bought her little red car before I married her because she thought it would be easier to see, and therefore safer. I pick colors based solely on what I think looks good, but I've never purchased a new car. They were very unimpressive by the time I came of age, and still are, but for different reasons than they were in the '80's.

According to John Heinrici, Chevrotet's chief test driver, back in the '90s, "All Corvettes are red. The rest are just mistakes!" I parked my "Resale Red" '65 Fuelie in the midst of a gaggle of late edition Vettes, including a 2019(?!), none of which were anywhere near Heinrici's admonition, at a cruise-in this AM and the snooty ex-Volvo drivers were rather put out about the attention it got.
The Big-Tailed Beast is "Twilight Blue Metallic"/"Arctic White" but Chrysler had a couple of really sexy reds back in 1960 and I dearly wish it were one of them. At least my '65 Sport Fury is Medium Red Metallic.
