Location: Southern Idaho, USA | Hey guys,
I need some help/advice on how to remove the gas tank on my 58 Plymouth. It is something that I probably should do as with the old gas that it has in it, and judging by how the filler tube looks, there is a whole lot of extra debris that shouldn't be in there. I will need to wash it out thoroughly to get all that stuff out, and that means removing the tank.
So how do I do it?
It looks difficult with how that filler tube is, so what is the best way to do it?
Can I remove the filler tube from the tank itself?
If not, how does that filler tube disconnect from the body? It looks pretty firmly connected to the body at the top of the filler tube.
Thanks. |

Location: NorCal | The filler tube just plugs into the tank, there's a rubber O ring in the tank flange that seals the tube to the tank. Remove the filler tube, disconnect the fuel hose and wires at the sender then remove the straps and it's ready to come out. This video might have some useful info:

Location: Milano, Italy |
I've done mine several times. The o-ring might be a little sticky if it is a long time since the tank was taken down. A little spray of wd40 helps a lot. And on reassembly, it s necessary a friend to hold the top side of the tube down or it will rise as you push (and twist a little) the tank up to its place.
