Expert 5K+ Posts: 9855 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Confusing/conflicting evidence (??). The 1532 numbers imply 1955 or earlier but yet it is a 4 bbl V8 manifold but it appears to be cast aluminum. The design is very intricate/strange with it's upper and lower parts, making me think it was for one of the Fuel Injection attempts. But??? Are you sure that is from a Mopar? Neither of the two numbers in the photos shows up as a 1955-58 intake manifold. Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | i think you have a hemi, much later aftermarket manifold, interesting. It was probably from the 70's 80's. Want to sell it? Its kind of nice because its low profile. It can be adapted to 2 * 4 barrel pretty easily if you have the adapter, of course finding the adapter would be an impossible task i don't know why the cable attachment is on the wrong side... the vacuum is in the way of the throttle linkage on a us car. Maybe this was in your Desotos trunk and he may have picked it up as future plans? And went/kept back to original. Edited by mikes2nd 2018-04-21 10:07 AM | ||

Expert Posts: 1886 | If it was aftermarket I imagine the casting would be easy to match off the number. Unlikely an aftermarket would use an E. This piece came out of Detroit with some other rare pieces I’m not sharing yet. My gut is experimental factory piece given the other things I got but who knows. | ||

Several items in the casting sure look too modern for the 1956 date hand written on the bottom. This doesn’t rule out an experimental intake. Maybe it was ahead of its time? I have no clue. My initial thoughts are that the intricacies cast in around the carb are not like anything I’ve seen in 1950s parts. Also the webbing in the rear are too deep and controlled. If it’s experimental it would be ahead of its time compared to aftermarket or production parts... so maybe it is. I’d suggest two ways to confirm. Put out feelers in the aftermarket arena ( HotHemiHeads & H.A.M.B.) and put out a feeler with Burt from Chrysler. It would be very cool if it did turn out to be from 1956. I’d contact Burt ASAP as non of us are getting any younger! It would be neat to solve it while we have time. | |||

P.s. If you have a grip of parts that you believe are experimental, I’d suggest sending clear and close up 8x10s to anyone who has Chrysler Engineering history like Burt and Gil. They will be able to give you clues that can increase the understanding of the parts. Even if they aren’t familiar with the specific part. Old school guys will respond better to prints than emails.
