It will be interesting to see where the bidding ends up. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-DeSoto-Adventurer/112919593367?hash=it... I do wonder if it has been repainted from white to black though as there seems to be quite a bit of white showing in various places with the most notable in the door jamb on the passenger side front where the door is open. This '60 almost makes me want to sell my '59 and buy this but I wouldn't have enough time - someone is going to scarf this thing up fairly quickly I believe.

The Paint Code on that "Rossetti Stone" Broadcast sheet seems to be WB2 which I might interpret as two-tone, white top and black bottom: ![]()

I'd still want to inspect for any prior repairs but I really like the color combo. Says it has the License Plate Frame. Anyone have an original to compare? Extreme Veteran Posts: 439 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: The Great Northwest | The license plate frame was available in 1961 as well. I have attached pictures showing the pieces involved including the plastic cover. Note that in the accessories book, you could order the plate in regular aluminum or gold anodized. The reflection on the plastic cover almost prevents seeing that the paperwork in the frame shows the two different part numbers for the regular and gold anodized versions. Also is a picture of the original 1961 dealer license plate frame that came on the NYer. Thank you. I was going off the master parts catalog of 1960, and it doesn’t list it for DeSoto. There are errors in the MPCs.

Elite Veteran Posts: 947 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Kansas City, Kansas | I have auto-pilot on my '60 Adventurer. The car is unrestored and probably original to the car. Auto-pilot is also shown in the '60 DeSoto sales brochure. The chrome on the inside of the lower door window frame is different than I have seen in the past. Most are painted the interior color.

It almost makes me want to sell my '59 and buy this car. There are two major reasons that I am passing on this car: One, it is an Adventurer and I like the Fireflite. The second reason is my '59 is far superior in factory original condition with just under 24,000 miles, no worries or problems, and provides more enjoyment than I have ever had with any other car I have ever owned - and that I like!

I too prefer the Fireflite. The cleaner bumpers and trim specs are just the start. To me, the name alone is solid gold 50's material. While "Adventurer" sounds like it could be from any period. What kind of car do you drive ? Me ? .... a Fireflite. Huh ??? Yeah, a DeSoto Fireflite. How about you ?

Expert Posts: 2400 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: central Illinois | Seems like a fair deal, maybe a little low being as there doesn't appear to be any serious rust or rot. Interior appears good. It would be a question of how much one wants to retain the "original" paint, or what's left of it. I'd consider a proper body/paint repair/refinishing and assess the chassis and engine. It would be easy to get in too deep if the work needs to be hired out. And how far one wants to go with chrome.

You would have to spend at least another 23k to have a shop properly paint it. Then another 23k for chrome and stainless, and half that again for rubber and all the other miscellaneous things needed in a meticulous restoration. And that is probably cutting costs a little short! IMO this is a fantastic car just like it sits. It is also a candidate for a high level restoration if a person wants to build about the finest '60 Desoto in existence.
