Welcome to the forum. You could post photos of your car to get us more interested. Some hints on posting photos are found here: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=64340&... As for the engine, you are correct that a 270 hemi is the correct engine for a 55 Custom Royal. However, the reality is a) you might not find one and b) a 4 dr sedan is never going to command big bucks, even if it was restored to the 9's. As a result, you might consider installing a non-55 engine, including the 56 D500 315 hemi or a 57 D500 325 hemi. OR if that didn't work out, a more modern non-hemi Mopar engine, anywhere from a 318 LA to a 440. With the more modern engines you could also go with 12V negative ground and an alternator instead of a 6V positive ground generator. I have 56 Custom Royal 4 dr sedan and I am a realist about its ultimate value being less than any 56 Lancer. Veteran Posts: 186 Location: Northern Illinois | thanks 55d, would like to keep it as original as possible (kind of a fanatic on that), in doing some online research im finding some engines but may have to buy the whole car. I have a few thing to do to it before I start seriously looking for one. I would like to switch to 12v but might start with 6v and convert later. ill get some pictures posted asap for you guys to check out!!!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9854 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Powerflite - 2018-03-09 10:29 AM This '56 315 hemi motor came up for sale. Yikes!! $4550 BIN price. Seller's story isn't 100% accurate: "A stock 1956 Dodge D500 sedan smashed 306 speed and endurance records in a 14-day run at Bonneville, Utah." Not true. It was the 230 hp 4 bbl dual exhaust 315 Poly that was used for the record setting. The record run was done in Sept. 1955 well before the D500 hemi was made available.

Elite Veteran Posts: 888 Location: Peoples Republic of Oregon | I'll suggest that the seller on ebay is a rapist; take some vasoline with you.... A rebuildable core, IMHO, whether a 241-260-270, should be in the $600-$800 range depending on level of completeness. The 315/325 could add $500-$700. Some folks will demand more for the Hemi and some will pay you to haul off a 'poly'. There is no logic that I have found. The poly is every bit as good a performer in stock trim as the Hemi. Unless you are working toward a 100 point car then any of the Dodge engines would be useful and only a good eye will know what the 'use code' says.......

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | You are right that performance-wise, there is no real reason not to use the poly motor as-is. They perform very well and you can get them very cheaply. The reality is that Dodge hemi parts tend to be quite expensive, even if purchased separately. You can get a poly motor and try to convert it, but it isn't going to be cheap doing it that way either. However, I don't think a 315 hemi motor is worth more than $1500 to $2000 max. A 270 hemi is more like $1000. 270 hemi heads, rockers, exhaust, valve covers & tubes will also cost $1000 - the bottom end of the 270 is free. But good luck finding one. They don't seem to have survived as well as the Chryslers.
