I have a 1957 Dodge D 500 single four barrel.

Question for the group:

Does the original fuel pump, have a glass bowl attached to the bottom of the fuel pump? That is what is on my car and I have one, which was removed that id like to rebuild, if its correct.

Thanks Bob

No. That's an aftermarket. Glass bowl for fuel filter is up by carb.

I agree. Glass bowl at the base of the fuel pump was a 58 thing.

Yes I have two. One glass sediment bowl attached to the bottom of the pump and another glass bowl at the carb.

Not sure I've seen the glass bowl on the bottom of the pump.  I've had several '58s, but none of them had anything other than the regular-looking pump.

Many of mine have had the carter glass bowl and (hard - like a porous rock) filter near the carb end.

Some 58 engines had glass bowl fuel pumps, the B block in particular, Carter model 2662S, which I believe 1959s also had them? Not sure about 1957.

I think 58, 354s and 392s all were originally equipped with glass bowl fuel pumps. They also used those same ceramic filter elements.

Incidentally, those Carter bowl type fuel filters also had a small but powerful magnet secured in the aluminum housing to attract/remove any steel filings etc. from the system. A very efficient method.
