Is this really a torqueflite  "Transmission 4-SPEED AUT", or meaning 3 forward + 1 backward?

To partially answer the original poster's question, this Adventurer convertible sold in 2016 at the Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson auction. This would make it one of the trio of 57-58-59 Adventurer convertibles offered up for sale at that auction. Knowing it's that car, I am fairly certain it is supposed to be white originally. This is an easy check as the data tag (usually located on the valence in front of the radiator support, but some were also located in the driver's door jam) would either read XXX for white or AAA for black.

If anyone makes it to this auction, please get the data plate info, as well as (if possible) the build sticker that is on the underside of the glovebox. Bob Terpak and I are tracking '59 DeSotos, particularly the Adventurers and would like to add the complete information.

Going by memory here, iirc John Staluppi was a car dealer, I think from Long Island or something, he had a big and top-flight quality collection, lived in FL at one time... again, going strictly by memory here.

Looks very like the car I passed on in 1985 and told the eventual owner, Alan Ralston of WPC about. Unfortunately Alan passed on last year, and I don't think he ever got the car to this level, when I last talked to him a few years ago it was still in storage. It was a #3-4 car when I saw it here in Binghamton in the '80s.

Roger, Alan never did finish his Adventurer convertible. Alan's car is now residing in Idaho with a close personal friend of Alan's and is nearing completion of the restoration.

As to the other comment about someone seeing one in 2011 in Reno, the only Adventurers I recall seeing at that convention was a gold/white '57 Adventurer convertible that was also at the 2017 convention and a white/gold '57 Adventurer hardtop.

Thanks for that update David, it's a car I've kicked myself many a time for not buying... because I was holding out for a '58! ... Ha! I had a black 58 NYer 'vert at the time. Nice to know it's in good hands still, Bob Terpak had told me that it went to Idaho but I didn't know what state it was in. The dealer, Bob Vitali, it was being sold at back then (privately, I saw it at his house here in Johnson City NY), is still around and being run by his son. The Black & Gold is unique and such a great combination.

I wasn't a big fan of 59's until at one of the NDC conventions one of the members, I think an officer of the club brought his Adventurer. It idled a little rough like it had a non stock cam. The car was beautiful and I was really impressed. Black 59 Adventurers are very cool!

Hopefully it goes for a price I'm willing to pay. I'd love to have all 3 convertibles 57-58-59.
